Sound quality good, but very high self noise (in combination with cheap audio interfaces problematic)
I bought the stereo matched pair to record a resonator guitar. The decision was made due to their small size (ideal for recording in constraint spaces, close miking or outdoors) and the mention on the product website that acoustic guitar recording is one of the main applications.
The first impressions when unpackaging: They are shipped in a nice box with good foam protection; all the contents are safely packed away in matching cut outs. The microphone clips are feeling sturdy and the angle adjustment is feeling very stiff, but in a good way: once the set screw is tightened, nothing moves. Another nice feature is that the 3/8'' thread is realized via a screw-in adapter, so if needed one can easily convert them to the 5/8'' standard. The microphones themselves feel not too heavy, but solid. It is quite unreal how small they are once one holds them in ones' own hands.
When setting up the microphones to do the first recordings with them, I was positively surprised how tight the clips grip the microphones - no chance that the microphone will fall out, even when the microphones hang upside down. Their lightweight, but sturdy construction makes recording safely in even not-ideal positions possible. The microphones' XLR connectors also grab the cable very tightly - certainly no loose connections like I had with other microphones. The provided foam protectors also fit snuggly.
The first impression of the sound quality was very good: The microphones sound airy/open, with a nice high end. Perhaps even a bit too bright for an already very bright sounding resonator guitar. However, with my interface (Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 4th Gen), the output level was very low, so I had to crank up the gain of the in-built preamps. No matter what combination of interface input gain and digital gain in the DAW I tried, the maximum achievable noise floor in the final mix was between -42 dB and -50 dB (for reference: minimum requirement for audio books is -60 dB and for professional studios around -65 dB to -75 dB), which is way too high for my purposes; especially when recording acoustic guitars with a lot of dynamics and long quite sections. From the data I gathered (please take it just as a reference what might be achievable with a cheap home setup, not as a 100 % acurate scientific test), my estimate of the self noise is around 22 dB to 25 dB; definitely (measurably and audibly) higher than the 20 dB specified by the manufacturer. In my case, the stereo match is also at least 3 dB to 5 dB off; however, this could be caused by measurement error due to my limited setup. For the time being I did not have the chance to test the microphones with a better external preamp; some interface preamps (especially of cheap interfaces) tend to not play well with condenser microphones. I have some equipment on order to further test the microphones under different conditions and perhaps find a solution.
In summary, the microphones are well-built and are sounding good, but the high self noise makes them difficult to use (especially with cheaper home recording setups, low volume sources or in high dynamic contexts).

Klein, aber nicht immer verlässlich.
Ich habe mir die Lewitt LCT040 als Backup-Kondenser für den Live-Alltag geholt. Falls man unvorhersehbarerweise doch noch zwei Kondenser mehr benötigt.
Positiv: Sind sind richtig klein und sehr leicht, passen also gut noch zusätzlich in den Rucksack zum Gig.
Sie klingen auch ok. Natürlich nicht so feinauflösend wie die Obere Garde a la Schoeps, DPA oder Sennheiser MKHs.
Negativ: Leider habe ich manchmal ein deutliches Störgeräusch/Brummen auf den Signalen. Habe bislang nicht herausfinden können, was der ursächliche Grund dafür ist. Aber schon alleine deshalb, brauche ich dann eigentlich noch ein Backup-Backup-Paar, das ich nutzen würde, wenn die Lewitts brummen sollten. Aufgrund des geringen Preises und der Größe behalte ich die 040er aber trotzdem.

Erwartungen nicht erfüllt
Zu dem Kauf bin ich über eine Rezension gekommen, die eine Alternative und gute Möglichkeit zum Fieldrecording beschrieb. Gelockt hat mich auch die Größe. Zum Zubehör kann man gratulieren. Es wurde quasi das wichtigste mitgeliefert.
Leider ist es so, zumindest bei meinem Pärchen, das eines von den Mikros nach dem Einschalten der Phantomspeisung und kurzem warten,
ein hohes Fiepen von sich gab. Das nach einiger Zeit ins unhörbare hinauslief, aber wohl immer noch da war. Das ein hörbares Rauschen beschrieben wurde war mir bekannt. Das ist aber für mich so störend, das es bei Kopfhörergebrauch fast Kopfschmerzcharakter hat. Zumal sich das hohe Fiepen in dem Noisefloor versteckt.
So hat sich diese Mikrofonvariante für mich überhaubt nicht gelohnt.
Zum Verständnis: Ich arbeite mit meinen Mikros (Neumann und Schoeps) vorwiegend im Fieldrecording und stelle mit den Mikros auch gerne Stille als Stille dar. Eigentlich sollte ich das wissen, aber eine günstige gute Ersatzlösung (schonen der teuren Mikros) hat mich gelockt.
Als Recorder: Sound Devices. Alle probiert, überall das gleiche Problem.
Stabilität ist gut, Halterungen halten perfekt, WS ist gut.
Technisch ist wie oben beschrieben. Bei meinem Pärchen.
Wer das bestehende Eigenrauschen gut überdecken kann und die Arbeit im Mix nicht scheut, hat sicher ein solides Modell. Für mich ist es nicht Mal ein Downgrade.

Wenns geht, geht's....
Das erste Stereopaar Lewitt LCT 040 Match musste ich leider zurückschicken da eines der beiden Mikrofone einen starken Brumm hatte. Nachdem ich zum probieren mehrmals die Kabel, den Preamp und den Wandler gewechselt hatte war klar, dass es am Mikrofon liegt. Ob bei Lewitt wirklich jedes Mikrofon vermessen und Handverlesen wird wage ich aufgrund dieser Erfahrung zu bezweifeln, sonst wäre das defekte Mikrofon aufgefallen.
Dank Thomann war der Garantietausch schnell und ohne Probleme möglich. Das zweite Paar funktioniert jetzt einwandfrei.
Der Klang ist voll mit einem leicht angehobenen Top-End. Das Grundrauschen ist etwas höher als bei teureren Mikrofonen, aber nie so, dass es einen Aufnahme unbrauchbar machen würde. Es bleibt halt trotz all der Lobeshymnen großer Produzenten ein Elektret-Kondenser.
Dank Thomann war der Garantietausch schnell und ohne Probleme möglich. Das zweite Paar funktioniert jetzt einwandfrei.
Der Klang ist voll mit einem leicht angehobenen Top-End. Das Grundrauschen ist etwas höher als bei teureren Mikrofonen, aber nie so, dass es einen Aufnahme unbrauchbar machen würde. Es bleibt halt trotz all der Lobeshymnen großer Produzenten ein Elektret-Kondenser.
