Very good and without snags
I can not add much to the previous reviews - that's before. I was looking for a mid-priced grand diaphragm microphone with no tube.
My requirement was: - not necessarily "China goods". I'm not really biased, and I think there are also great Chinese-made microfibers, but I'm vllt. Something para with regard to production fluctuations, processing quality, etc., did not want to have a Monday product, etc. - as mentioned no tube (since good tube micros must then be already significantly more expensive "must", so as not to save at other corners), and no unnecessary features such as switchable patterns or similar; Better kept simple, but very good quality.
After some research and rummage I then selected 3 favorites and ordered: - the RODE NT1000, - the AKG C 4500 B-BC and even - the MK4 (in set with spider, if already, because already).
Details on the other microphones can be found under the header above.
About the SENNHEISER MK4: Yes, ah basically is a small fine piece of valuable work. Compared to the other two microphones, I thought of the "most valuable", with thought-through construction, sober. The basic stand attachment (not the optional spider) included with the basic equipment is simple, but should be sufficient if the microphone remains in a fixed position and is not moved much (ie in a speaker booth, for example). The MK4 outputs neat levels - roughly on a level with the RODE. The AKG was noticeably quieter with the same PreAmp-Aussteuerung. Sound was the most convincing - crisp bass, but not over-emphasized, overall transparent and grippy, assertive. Something hiss-prone to my feeling, but ok. I've only done a voice recording and an improvised fun voice recording - 3 girls and I'm blaring into a microphone. Accordingly, there was also singing from the side, on a width of about 120 °. Slight coloring in the recording of very marginal, otherwise perfect, and sounds even without post-processing impressive. Like!
Features: as mentioned, there is none. Therefore, there of me only 4 stars, since I can live with it, but a pad and / or HP would have liked me but; Also for a few toads. And that the spider is optional to purchase and is not quite cheap, is just a bit "meh". The spider convinces, however, also by a very stable construction, for which I can understand the price already.
Conclusion: Microphone without any features, which makes only what it should make. This (as far as I can judge so far) with a very good quality, which gives you the feeling of a small technical masterpiece.
I am totally enthusiastic about the sound of this microphone! Some may not like the slight presence increase, but for me the MK4 gets thereby character! My Neumann TLM103 sounds more neutral, but the two mics complement each other well. Sennheiser has saved in the right areas and built an outstandingly sounding and professionally processed microphone. In my opinion, the comparison with low-cost micros, since the MK4 is simply none (except for the price!). The Chinese sound transducers certainly have their right to exist, and there are also good-sounding copies (if one because of the large production scatterings times one). But who needs a micro that is in a bag, which is placed in a wooden box, which in turn is placed in an aluminum case. Needless to say, Schnicknnnack! Moreover, these microphones and their accessories are mostly unhealthy :-) The MK4 is just a great microphone, which is stored in a dust cover. Finished! The clamp works well; A spider must be purchased separately; I take my Neumann spider, which fits! According to my experience so far, the MK4 works very well in many recording situations (vocals, acoustic guitar, percussion) and it almost does not rustle.
A real recommendation for those who are looking for a high-quality professional microphone, but can not or do not want to pay professional prices.
