Epiphone J-200 EC Studio BK

In verband met COVID 19 epidemie moest ik vrij lang wachten (3 maanden)op deze schoonheid, dat wist ik al voordat ik deze gitaar bestelde bij Thomann want deze gitaren worden in China geproduceerd. Nu was ze daar eindelijk ! Op eerst al gezicht " a big fat beautiful lady" en ook op het tweede gezicht! Even de snaren tunen en gespeeld. Eerst klinkt ze wat dun maar na een paar dagen inspelen klinkt ze vol en goed. Ik zag in andere reviews dat sommigen andere snaren van een bepaald merk erop deden en ze daardoor beter klonk. Ik denk dat ze me wat dikkere snaren nog beter klinkt dan sowieso al! Dat ga ik dan ook proberen. Leuk verschijnsel erbij de tuner en het Fischman element kling fantastisch op mijn akoestische versterker.
Nadeel: helaas moest ik voor het eerst een gebrek noteren in de afwerking van de gitaar: het werfwerk van de zijkant van het fretwork loopt deels bij fret13-18 in elkaar over het is niet glad en onzuiver afgewerkt. Daar ben ik van Epiphone wel iets beters gewent qua afwerking maar ook Thomann steekt daar niet in. Ik denk dat dit alleen bij dit exemplaar zo is. Ook was die slagplaat deels niet goed vast en moest ik de slagplaat even goed aandrukken maar dan zat ze ok goed vast. Al met al dus wat slordig afgewerkt want vooral als je lang op iets moet wachten kun je de goede standart van Epiphone wel verwachten! Vandaar dat de gitaar wat afwerking betreft voor mij een sterretje minder krijgt. Echter maakt mij dat niet zo veel uit want de bespeelbaarheid en de mooie volle klank van deze gitaar doet dat geen afbreuk en immers voor deze prijsklasse kan je dat niet altijd verwachten. In ieder geval ben ik blij met mijn " Black fat beautiful Lady' en speel ze met veel plezier vooral Willie Nelson en Johnny Cash songs! ...." Good morning America houw are yah, don't you know that I' m you native son....etc.etc.

A nice guitar, well finished and has no flaws.

There is a built-in tuner that is reasonably accurate and easy to use. The pre-amp is very well made and produces a very decent sound with a good range of tonal adjustments through the built-in tone controls.

Acoustically it sounded a little too dull and thick with the fitted strings. I changed the strings and it did sound a little brighter, but not as bright as it should. It is also not as loud as a guitar of this body size should be. I suspect the choice of woods has a negative effect on the resonance.

The neck is fatter than I prefer and is finished in gloss, making it feel a little sticky sometimes. I'll by lightly sanding it to more of a satin finish.

Overall, it's worth the money. You get what you pay for and the pricing on this is about right.

I've had this guitar for few month now, it sounds fantastic for the price range, good initial setup, fantastic look and feel, easy tune and easy connection for recording purposes.

When you pick up the guitar, you can feel the sturdy construction. the sound coming from the guitar is huge, very balanced between bass and mid-range notes. Stings height is low thus making the playing really easy. Guitar has both mono and stereo plugs for jacks so integration with a mixer or recording interface is really easy.

For me this guitar was an upgrade from a mid range Ibanez and the difference is massive.

Well what can i say, this is the second epiphone guitar I have purchased from Thomann and its just amazing. It plays like a dream. I was shocked and completely taking away when i started playing it. You can really feel the base when you start playing the guitar, it vibrates through the hole guitar and gives you a feeling of power. The sound through my speakers is just amazing as well. I use the guitar for playing at all my gigs. The guitar was slightly bigger than I imagined but its still a brilliant guitar. The guitar arrived on perfect time and i had full confidence ordering from Thomann there wasn't a scratch on it. Thank you thomann, I hope to be ordering from you again, :-)
