Very nice upgrade
While my Aria RSB 618-5 is a well built bass for the money (and since Thomann have copied this model for their own HB brand Aria must be doing something right) the electronics are, erm, well, not stellar. I replaced them with an EMG J5 set, and it takes the instrument to a whole new level. There are a few things to consider though.
If your bass has a pick guard, you may have to enlarge the pickup hole a bit. The battery also roams around unchecked in the control area so a clamp or similar device to constrain it is required. I had to slightly widen the routes from the pickup cavities to the control area: 5.5 mm is the absolute minimum diameter required for the connectors to go through. Furthermore, you get everything in the package except pick up springs. Keep your old ones around because you’ll need them. You also may or may not need new knobs.
Despite these minor gripes it’s a definite and serious upgrade. Installation was not too hard if you work slowly and concisely. It is indeed a solderless solution.
