Great Channel Strip

Catalin.B, 04.02.2018
I have this channel strip for 2 months and i'm very satisfied with my purchase.
Everything i record trough it sounds awesome: vocals, bass guitar, electric guitar, snare
EQ - It's almost impossible to make it sound bad
Compressor is thick and adds weight to the sound.
And the Silk is.... smooth, i prefer red on vocals and guitar, and blue on bass.
The only downside is the price but it think it deserves it.

cool, but ...

Schnalfi, 24.08.2018
I searched for an all-in-one solution for vocals and language and after good reviews I tried the Shelford Channel.

The part is very well made, the rastered rotary switches due to their length outstanding to use, haptic is the part top.

First, I have a U87 rangehängt, later then two more Kondensatormics. Basically, to say that the preamp m. M. harmonizes slightly better with 'darker' Mics, or gives them a little light push. But my impressions were similar in all. Here we go...

The sound of the preamp first surprised by its unexpected clarity. With a 1073, the part really has nothing to do. Rather light and fine and cleansed from excessive coloring.

The EQ was also a bit of a joke. All 3 bands rather discreet, not really analytical, not beautiful coloring ... The signal, however, he can not really give volume, let alone the stupid. Actually, he was in between. If he had a fourth volume, I might have been able to do more with it altogether. A big problem was that I was not able to eat a signal properly. Definitely point deduction. But talking about a "bad" 3-band EQ would also be presumptuous. A bit more Api, a bit more campfire I would have liked ... or just 4-band and more surgery.

I did not think the compressor was bad. But also a bit undecided: too clear to butter and to dye, to remain invisible. This "intermediate sound" is somehow not mine. I found it best when I set the shortest attack with the additional fast button.
The fader also teases the signal rather than lending it body. Reminded me of the Avalon Strip and that is well known a tube (evil tongues claim a little thin - sorry).

The design control "Blend" on the compressor did not convince me so much, but the "Texture" rotary switch (including the blue & red-selectable Silkbuttons) in the output breathe the Strip zero mojo. ? But then why?
By the way - is not it somehow mojo and sort of 'emotionality' that you associate with nice outboard gear - and is looking for?

The part is certainly very 'good', the values ??are great, it should be emphasized that the frequencies are limited and unnecessarily strained by absurd kHz values, the converter. But overall, the Shelford Channel concept does not work out for us.
The Silk function basically does not agree with me. Interventions in this kind can be m. M. to get better with the vast majority of plugins.

I do not buy it - and I quickly realized that.
