A compact and versatile tube head

"Lunchbox"-style amps have long since established themselves as a mainstay in the guitar amplifier segment, and the REVV D20 head now sets a new standard. This head packs a 20W all-tube amplifier and a vast range of connection options into a highly compact housing that weighs in at just 4.1kg, offering players an extremely versatile solution for the rehearsal room, stage, and studio. The main highlight of the D20 is its integrated Two Notes speaker simulation, which provides six onboard cab presets and can be expanded to 128 via MIDI, and thus allows players to record directly to their computer without the need for further signal processing - and of course without the need to connect a speaker cabinet, since the built-in reactive load circuitry protects the power amp when running without a cab.

Intuitive operation and opulent sounds

The REVV D20 amp head combines a single-channel preamp, which is equipped with two 12AX7 tubes and delivers a full sound that covers everything from crystalline cleans to extremely dynamic crunch, with a 20W power amp that is driven by a duo of 6V6 tubes and can also be scaled down to 4W for saturated tones at lower volumes. Players have a full three-band EQ with controls for bass, middle, and treble at their disposal to make their desired adjustments to the amp's powerful basic sound, while the gain pot also features an additional boost activated via push/pull. The Virtual Cabinet control in turn provides instant access to six presets, with up to 128 cabinets loadable via MIDI.

A workhorse for the stage and studio

While the front panel of the REVV D20 is clear and minimalistic, the amp's rear panel reveals a wealth of useful connections: Alongside the USB-C port for Torpedo Remote and firmware, a 5-pin MIDI input, and an easy-access bias point, there is also a balanced XLR output with ground lift, a buffered series effects loop, and a speaker output switchable between 4 and 8 ohms. The Two Notes speaker simulations mean users can quickly find the sound they want without time-consuming cabinet swaps, making this the ideal amp for studio use. Its simple three-band EQ lets players dial in their preferred basic sound, while those who want to connect the amp to an actual speaker cab while still being kind to their ears (and neighbours!) can also reduce its output power to 4W and enjoy the sound of a "cranked" tube power amp at moderate volume levels.

About REVV

REVV Amplification is a small Canadian company founded in 2014 by Dan Trudeau, whose core competence lies in the manufacture of guitar amplifiers. The range is divided into two series - categories Pro and Alpha - and includes tube guitar amps with handmade circuit boards, as well as cabinets and distortion pedals. The use of high-quality components results in reliable, robust amps with exceptional sound quality. REVV Amplification made its first public appearance at the 2015 NAMM Show, where the REVV Generator 120, a four-channel amp with a whopping 120 watts, made a strong impression.

Small, light, and adaptable

Thanks to its low weight and more than modest footprint, the REVV D20 amp head will all but carry itself from the studio recording desk to the rehearsal room or the stage, and its combination of power, top-notch build quality, and extensive functionality are sure to capably fulfil players' needs in all of these scenarios. On top of that, over 100 virtual microphone, speaker, and cab simulations as well as MIDI connectivity, a buffered series effects loop, and Two Notes power amp simulation increase the D20's versatility even further. And thanks to the aforementioned power reduction feature, players can enjoy the same high-quality sound when playing at home or switch to the headphone amp for late-night practice and in mobile setups.
