Nice tone, solid feel

This was a gift for my wife who is an intermediate at cello.I wanted to buy a cello that wasn't a beginners one, and I understand this model was more traditional materials (e.g. ebony tuning pegs etc). I was looking at different models and I suppose I finally ended on choosing Yamaha because of it's reputation within orchestral instruments manufacturing.

The packaging seemed sturdy.the instrument very well protected. It came with a soft-case, which seemed pretty ordinary. I would guess few would transport/store a cello (in this price tier) in a soft case. My wife already had a cello hardcase and was uninterested in it.

I don't play the cello, so comments are what I picked up from my wife and her dad (which is an old music school principal and composer that basically can play all instruments in an orchestra),

First my father-in-law tested the cello, he deemed it well built and he thought it had a nice warm, full tone. He told me there didn't seem to be any wolf tones coming from it. I noted it didn't take him very long to tune it/adjust it. Did he think it was worth the money? He was suggesting it would cost me somewhere around ?2000-3000 to find a "decent" cello, and he was obviously content with the sound, so I assume that is a yes.

My wife commented the instrument felt solid, it had a very nice finish, she like the tone. Maybe this is nowadays standard, but she noted a nice feature is that it had a rubber foot on the endpin making an endpin anchor unneccessary.

Ich wollte ein Cello, das trotz meinem Anfängerstatus gut klingt und es daher Spass macht, darauf zu lernen. Super Klang, solide verarbeitet.

Einzig den Bogen aus dem Set habe ich nach kurzer Zeit gegen einen (für mich griffigeren) Höfner-Bogen hier aus dem Thomann-Shop ausgetauscht, ebenso habe ich Larsen-Saiten aufziehen lassen (obwohl die originalen wirklich nicht schlecht waren). In dem Zusammenhang machte es sich zusätzlich bemerkbar,
auf ein hochwertiges "Profi"-Kolophonium zu wechseln.
Mit diesen kleinen Veränderungen kommt der schöne und volle Klang dieses Cellos nun noch besser zur Geltung und es ist (für mich) insgesamt nochmal deutlich leichter, damit trotz Anfängerstatus "schön" und dynamisch zu spielen.

Der Cellolehrer konnte gar nicht glauben, dass es sich "nur" um ein Yamaha-Cello handelte und war von diesem Cello sehr, sehr angetan.

FAZIT:
Auch als Anfänger mit "feinem" Gehör sollte man lieber zu einem etwas höherwertigen Instrument zurückgreifen. Man verliert schnell die Lust am Spielen, wenn trotz Fortschritten weiterhin nur ein mässiger Klang dabei herauskommt.
Mit diesem Yamaha-Cello bekommt man wirklich ein rundum gutes Instrument, ich bin froh, mich gegen alle Bedenken aus dem Familienkreis dafür entschieden zu haben.

J'ai hésité très longtemps entre aller chez le luthier ou commander sur ce site pour un violoncelle de ce prix là mais comme on pouvait le renvoyer,je me suis lancée. Déjà, la livraison a été plus que satisfaisante puisqu'il est arrivé avec une avance de quinze jours, emballé très correctement avec un livreur qui a pris son temps. Ensuite l'instrument : Il faut avouer que je passe d'un contreplaqué à un bois massif et ça fait déjà une énorme différence. J'ai été bluffé par la sonorité, la qualité de fabrication. Il est vraiment beau pour ce prix. N'étant pas grande musicienne, j'ai attendu avec impatience l'avis de ma prof et le voici : Pour ce prix là, très bel instrument avec une belle sonorité et un excellent réglage.Très bon rapport qualité prix. Je n'aurai pas trouvé mieux chez un luthier. Me voilà rassurée... Me reste à voir dans le temps comment il va évoluer...comme tout instrument.
Petit bémol quand même : la housse qui est trop ajustée à l'instrument. Il faut faire vraiment attention à la fermeture éclair en l'ouvrant qui risque d'abimer le cello. Perso, j'en change!
