The crotchet rest is only a one beat rest in a “4” time eg 3/4, 2/4, 4/4, 5 etc
In a “2” time 2/2, 3/2, 4/2, then the crotchet rest is only a half beat rest.
Similarly in “8” time (6/8, 7/8, 9/8 etc.), the crotchet rest is a two beat rest.
