No good fit for Tele
I have a Tele that happens to have a humbucker cavity in the neck position. (Di Marzio True Velvet at the bridge).
I tried this double neck pickup to add some versatility. I wired it with a Strat-style pickup selection switch: bridge only, bridge and rail, rail only, P90 and rail, P90 only.
Very different sounds, indeed, but no good match together. The impedance of the P90 and of the Rail is apparently a lot higher than that of my Blue Velvet bridge pickup.
The Neck pickups sound muddy and dull in the Low input and the Di Marzio sonically disappears in the High input.
In order to make best use of all the pickups, I'd have to switch between the High and Low inputs of the Lab5 amp I play through. Not an option.
Also, the P90 and the Rail do not give me what I expect from a single coil pickup. Sensitivity to the touch, I mean.
I think I'll sell the Seymour Duncan combination and go for a conventional Tele neck pickup, again. Lesson learned!
