Boss ME-90

I'm a fan of Me-80 for its simplicity like stomp boxes. I am using it in manual mode every time in the live situation specially in the church praise & worship songs.

As a Boss ME-80 User for a long time, I am really excited to see the New Me-90. It finally arrived now my hands and I'm really happy that it came safely after 2 weeks.

I love boss product for its long term durability and quality.
The moment I see and hold the unit, I can tell that the ME-80 is superior in terms of build quality. The Me-90 is solidly built, its made of metal and hard plastic at the bottom, but as a long term user of the previous model, I can tell that the Me-80 is more solid, more heavy, more quality, and its metal all around, the plastics knobs also is better in th old model.

I am still satisfied because of the new Software updates, new pre-amps and the new effects added in the unit, thats the reason I purchase this.
Overall, Its still the best simple multi effects to use and I love it.

THE UNIT :

+ME series is always my favorite and me 90 is good value for money.
+ runs with batteries for a lot of hours.. i ve never used power (only recharchable batteries)
+boss quality ,, no latency at all...
+ freeze effect, and other new effects and delays :) .. a lot of fun stuff,
there are extra options for amps (a lot of great clean ones)
+ i use it with the bluetooth adaptor which is great!!
+ the software works great.. (old days ..with me 80.. had a lot of bugs)

- ME 90 is a good unit for practice , performance and everything you can imagine but the sound quality is more <<digital>> when you compare it with the me 80 ,, you can achieve an <<ME 80 sound >> but needs more effort .. reverse delay is a bit different than the me 80 (less time maybe?).. some of the features are limited with no reason (for example the reverbs) and is not any more the unit which you dont have to mess much.. there are some issues as well when you overload the delays..
- presets are not as good as they could be :) but not a problem

overall ..

I sold a unit with a lot of features (which was more expensive) .. touch display and a lot of other things just to buy the Me-90. I dont regret it at all , the me-90 is a great quality unit but only needs some firmwares and updates..

Habe das ME-90 als Alternative für mein GX-100 und GT-1000 ausprobiert. Vorne in die INPUT Buchse meines Clean Combo (klang besser, als hinten in RETURN).

VORTEILE
Die Bedienung ist sehr einfach. Zum Vergleich:
Einarbeitungszeit ME-90: 1 Tag (GX-100: 1 Woche, GT-1000: 1 Monat).

Hoher Spaßfaktor: Kein "Menu Diving" wie bei den beiden komplexen Modellern, herrlich! Durch die praktischen Drehregler ändert sich das Hörerlebnis unmittelbar, und besonders der Anfänger/Fortgeschrittene erlernt so viel schneller ein intuitives Verständnis vom Zusammenspiel der Effekte.

Guter Sound: Klingt im wesentlichen so wie GX-100 / GT 1000. Effekte hervorragend. Preamps am Combo zunächst unbrauchbar (Lösung dafür s.u. bei "Anschluß").

Nützliche Spezialeffekte: "Freeze" (ein Drone-Tone als Unterlage, um darüber zu Improvisieren, oder Modes zu üben). "Feedbacker". "Tune down " (z.B. 1/2 Ton tiefer auf Eb)

Praktische "Hold"-Funktion: Längeres Drücken von "Delay" aktiviert "Tap-Tempo"

NACHTEILE
Die Drehregler sind zu dicht an den Fußschaltern. Wenn man mit dem Fuß auf einen Fußschalter tritt, stoßen die Zehenspitzen an die Drehregler. Sofort verändert sich der Klang unangenehm.

Die Fußschalter 1-4 (= Memory Mode) können leider KEINE Doppelfunktion ausüben, wie es moderne Modeler können. Bei diesen kann man mit Doppeltritt auf FS1-4 jeweils eine zweite Funktion aktivieren, z.B. Solo-Boost, also 4 Schalter = 8 Sounds. Das FEHLT beim ME-90. Sehr schade! Damit wäre das Gerät vielseitiger und übersichtlicher, denn man müsste nicht so oft in den unübersichtlichen "Manual Mode" wechseln.

Das Hin- und Her Wechseln zwischen Manual und Memory Mode erfordert viel Konzentration. Man verirrt sich da leicht, zumal die winzigen Lämpchen dann in anderen Farben blinken. Auf der Bühne braucht man seine Konzentration aber für andere Dinge.

Tipps zur Verwendung der "Preamps" am Amp (Combo):
Die von Boss favorisierte Option, ist: Den kleinen Schalter hinten von "Line" auf "Guitar" zu stellen. ME-90 into Amp-Input oder Amp-Return. Eine von 12 "AIRD-Output-Options" auszuwählen (= EQ Modifikationen zur individuellen Abstimmung von ME-90 auf unterschiedliche Combos, z.B. "Katana 212 Return").
Ich habe alle dies Optionen ausprobiert, rauf und runter. Aber: Alles klingt SCHLECHT! Dumpf, muffig, leblos, unbrauchbar.

Nach langem Ausprobieren habe ich eine Lösung gefunden:
ME-90 into Amp INPUT. Kleiner Schalter hinten auf "Line". Bei "Line" wird eine automnatische Speakersimulation aktiviert. Diese wieder DEAKTIVIEREN, oder besser gesagt: Einen LEEREN IR-Slot laden: Am PC mit IR-Loader oder am ME-90 mit der Tastenkombination "Edit" (halten) und Footswitch 2, 3 oder 4 drücken (um einen von drei werksseitig leeren IR-Slots anzuwählen).
Jetzt kommt das "Aha" Erlebnis: Die Preamps sind jetzt endlich brauchbar! Nicht mehr so dumpf und künstlich. Insbesondere "Natural", "X-Crunch", "X-Highgain", "X-Mod". Bei den High-Gain-Amps gibt's nach Wegfall der IR logischerweise unangenehme Höhen. Die reduziere mit dem Preamp-EQ aus der FX2-Section.

Fazit: Das ME-90 macht viel Spaß, z.B. bei Jam-Sessions und Sound-Tüfteleien für einen Song. Für "Top 40 live auf der Bühne"? Hm. Nein! Zu unübersichtlich ist das Hin- und Her zwischen "Memory" und "Manual". Beim GX-100 hab ich 16 (!) Sounds mit 8 Fußschaltern, und brauche keinen Memory Mode.
