Sounds awful...

Jenny O., 11.05.2018
I really needed a pickup for a few gigs I was doing & didn't have the budget to get a very good quality one so ended up going with the SH-SC1 (cheapest I could find). It does the job if you're on a budget but it sounds like its coming through a phone speaker. If you have the money invest in a better one.

Piezzo sounds just cheap. But with impulse response ... unbelievable

tuxwurst, 24.04.2018
At the beginning of my electrified career I had no high demands. But with those also grew my electroacoustic knowledge. Paired with an always clammy wallet, this customer had to keep holding back for a few months. I have been using it for 8 years now. Now I needed a replacement for mechanical reasons and I bought it again. Simply, because it is the cheapest and because I have found a way to bring it to life.

It's just a piezo like any other: crisp in the depths, dull in the middle and shrill in the heights. In addition, the piezo on the bridge logically, no natural reverberation of the body. For metal riffs or jazzy pizzicatos completely sufficient.
As soon as it goes into the acoustic, the sound is no longer useful. With Equalizing and the right reverb this can get a little bit under control but the sound of it is still not good.

In use, there are a few tricks and tricks to get better sound.
First:
Read the operating instructions! After three years, I first noticed that one piezo is meant for the deep side of the bridge (below the C string) and the other for the high one. (under the A-string) If you hold it, you get at least reproducible sound results: D
Secondly:
Preamp! I know who buys this customer, will hardly spend 200¤ for a preamp but but make sure that you get your customers in a high-impedance input. Often an aktrive DI box is enough. Explaining that would go beyond the scope here. Just inform yourself about impedance matching. as a starting point: this Piezzo has something between 3 and 10MOhm - so much.
Third, this is where cheating begins:
I have begun to clamp the piezo for the heights no longer in the bridge but to stick with adhesive for contact micros over the bass bar to the body. The adhesive goes off again, but rub after a while. This adds a bit of corpus and sounds much more pleasant right down to the middle. The rickety heights do not go away completely.
Fourth, and now comes:
Impulse responses! I got sponsored a multi-effect device, which IR can play. Since I have a scale recorded (with Piezzo and Studiomicro a friend - at the same time!) And the whole duch a software called Deconvolver sent. Then I loaded the IR on the effects unit and what should I say: like day and night. I will not use any other setting for the stage. The piezo is fairly feedback-safe, fast tuned and degraded and cheap, the sound of the IR comes closer to my ears closer to the studio microphone, as a contact micro and for some sounds you want to use even this grumpy piezo sound. To glue a customer on the body is then no longer necessary but it should be the same setting as when recording the IR.

The cheapest IR hardware I've found is the relatively new Moer radar for 130¤. To achieve a similar sound you can spend much more. The one who does not shy away from the one-off furnishing I give an absolute buy recommendation.

If you just want a way to make yourself louder without giving much priority to authentic sound (yes, that's what you want), you should follow the above three tips to make the listening experience more enjoyable.
