Shadow SH955 NFX-C Cello Pickup

Professional Nanoflex Pickup For Cello

The SH 955-NFX is a professional Nanoflex pickup for cello that produces an absolutely pure, natural sound. Due to the Shadow developed NFX technology, the pickup is absolutely free of glare. All Nanoflex pickups absorb both the oscillations of the strings, as well as the bridge, and thereby transmit a sound that is similar to that of a microphone / bass pickup combination.

The volume and tone control unit is mounted between the middle strings. This includes the input jacks for the pickup, the 6.3 mm output jack and the battery. With the low power consumption of the system, the 3 V cell battery (2032) is sufficient for one year.

No drilling or milling is necessary to install the pickup on the instrument.

  • High-sensitivity double bottom bridge pickup (1 pickup per foot)
  • Absolutely free of disturbing side noise
  • Volume and tone control unit
  • 6.3 mm jack socket
  • 3 V cell battery
  • Very low energy consumption

Sound super, walking could be improved
Khaldun, 03.02.2014
The piezo-receiver Shadow SH955 NFX-C for cello is quite quickly attached to the instrument. The sides must be loosened somewhat and then the foil contacts must be pushed under the web.

If you do not mind the minimum higher side position, the cello does not need to be changed, otherwise the bridge would have to be ground down. Purists will complain that the clamping between the bridge and the tailpiece will impede the free swinging of the strings towards the endpin. I myself could not find any sound impairment on my middle class instrument when playing without amplification.

The amplified sound is very full and clear at the same time for a piezo pickup, as both the oscillations at the bridge as well as from the cello ceiling are removed. Super are the controls for volume and sound. This allows for a slight pre-amplification and restricts the piezotypical problems with too high an altitude. The sound is much more natural than other piezo users tested by me. Better sounds only an optimally positioned Studiomikro - there is however with live appearances problems with feedback. On the other hand, the shadow user is immune to a fairly high volume. So overall for the sound of me five stars.

Ups and downs has for me the processing. The inner values ??are excellent. At the jacks and controllers there is nothing to complain about, which work perfectly and without wiggles and scratching. The built-in mini-preamp is quite low noise and just sounds good. The button battery used is easily available in electronics markets and sometimes even in the food discounter. The energy consumption is minimal, after several months I still use the supplied button cell. It is therefore incomprehensible to me why the customer then has no cover for the battery compartment.

The battery is open, as if it had to be changed quickly in a live appearance. The thin contact lug can stick to a sleeve or scarf and easily break off. Otherwise, the plastic housing is functional. Why do the Shadow buyers have to have this cheap-looking silver color? Black would be much more subtle on an acoustic instrument. Maybe Shadow builds once a Pro version in black and with battery cover (eg as a Thomann special edition).

Engaged musicians would certainly spend a few more euros.

Conclusion: For the great sound, the good control possibilities and the inner values ??overall of me five stars.
