Neumann TLM 103: Little brother of U87 !!!

The Neumann TLM 103 Condenser Microphone is a real wonder for the ears and for the eyes.
In essence it is a more economical alternative to the industry standard of dubbing and musical production: the Neumann U87.
I'll summarize what I consider to be the most relevant of this super-micro!
- It presents excellent clarity and naturalness to record solo voices.

-Comparándolo in the study, conducting exhaustive tests with the same previous ones
(Focusrite ISA 430MkII, TLA Audio and Universal Audio Solo 610) without applying compression and with the same parameters, I am perfectly capable of differentiating which is the 103 and which is the U87.
They have a very similar character and color, all I identify with the TLM103 is that it presents a slight enhancement in frequencies around 6500Hz and 9000Hz, resulting in more presence of voices in the mix.

Technically the 103 has 7dB own noise (the noise that generates internally its electronic components) and the U87 produces 12dB, but I have to confess that this is invaluable. Both values ??are very low and except in situations where recording with a strong Compression and capturing weak sources of sound with high levels of gain, it is practically impossible to distinguish it.

-The sensitivity is slightly lower than the U87 in cardioid, but nothing that can not be compensated by raising the gain 3 or 4dB's.
The proximity effect is also very similar and is handled very well with the extra bass frequencies that occur when you bring the interpreter closer to the capsule.

Practically impossible, so we are talking about a very high quality micro, which offers a complete sound, with Neumann character, with presence and without stridencies and with a great dynamic range, supporting strong levels of sound pressure.
It's great to record instruments, but especially for voices: I love it !!!

-Maybe, on the other hand, that small medium-high frequency boost helps to produce more presence and generate a more transparent sound, but with some singers I had to use a de-esser to soften the "eses" a little.

-And finally note that it would be desirable to incorporate a small "switch or switch to activate a high pass filter.

A very high quality condenser microphone, correctly positioned (I recommend a couple of cm below the mouth in interpreters with excess wheezing or seseo) we will achieve everything that can be asked of a studio microphone and more.
