Where to start..? I recently bought this exact configuration in Green Sparkle. I have fully tested it today with an all day band rehearsal.
If you have been looking at this kit and need a little nudge in the right direction then I hope I can clear the path for you.
I have owned and played many kits over my forty year drum history, Tama StarClassic, Yamaha Maple Custom, Original Premier Genista, etc, etc. I feel I am able to know what is good or bad.
I can say that the Ludwig more than stands shoulder to shoulder with any other manufacturer in the same budget area both in terms of build quality and finish or fixtures and fittings.
Of course the Continental range from Ludwig is meant to service the intermediate European market and in my opinion it does very well at that.
The tones on the whole are warm and punchy. I swapped out the Ludwig Remo heads for Remo Ambassador single ply coated. I also fitted an EMAD2. The kick drum is sublime. It's loud and warm and sounds so good in front of the drum or indeed sat behind it. The 12" rack tom is just as easy to tune and sounds great at many pitches. The 16" floor tom is great fun to play, it doesn't swamp itself and can ring out or give a punchy tone, either with or without damping rings. I have had such fun today, falling in love with this kit. It's been a long time since I could say "fun" about playing the drums.
I have cheated a little bit as I gifted myself a Ludwig Acrolite 6.5". Needless to say, the ensemble is outstanding. I guess I'll throw the Ludwig Continental snare in a cupboard for a bit until I can find the time to give it a review.
