The Klark Teknik DI 20P is a DI box that, thanks to its first-rate components, makes absolutely no compromises when it comes to processing audio signals, getting across every instrument's unique character to the mixing desk, where the sound can be further shaped and enhanced. Because the DI 20P is constructed entirely from passive components, it doesn't require an external power source; particularly noteworthy is its special transformer, made by the manufacturer Midas, which is responsible for the high-quality signal processing. The DI 20P is sure to impress professional users working both in the studio and at live events with its robust build quality and reliable functionality.
The front of the Klark Teknik DI 20P is equipped with a pair of input sockets for an unbalanced, high-impedance stereo signal. Both jacks have their own XLR output on the rear of the unit: If a mono signal needs to be run out of both XLR outputs, there is also a pair of thru sockets on the front panel – the user can simply use a short patch cable to connect the left thru socket with the right-hand input. Next to the sockets, there are pad switches that attenuate the signal passing through to the XLR sockets on the rear by 15dB. Situated between the two XLR sockets, there's also an earth/lift switch to separate the input and output grounds.
The Klark Teknik DI 20P can connect stereo keyboards, samplers, synths, and other electronic instruments to a mixing desk, making it a trusty companion for event techs and studio engineers who want to able to record their musicians with negligible loss of signal level. Additionally, the pad switches make it possible to reliably process the input signals of a whole range of instruments. The hum caused by loops between devices and an electric current can be suppressed using the earth/lift switch. All the electronics housed in the DI 20P are well-protected thanks to the sturdy aluminium casing and the hard rubber corner protectors, which also give the device a very robust look. This is a professional DI box that's ready for the road.
Founded in 1974 by brothers Terence and Phillip Clarke, Klark Teknik designs and manufactures professional audio equipment used primarily in the events industry. Based in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, UK, the company has developed a number of innovative products in the audio field (including the DN60 Real Time Analyzer and the DN300 Graphic Equalizer) and it won one of the Queen's Awards for Enterprise in 1986. Today, the firm (along with Midas) is owned by the Music Group, to which Behringer also belongs.
It's the exceptional electronics inside this little device that allow the Klark Teknik DI 20P to process signals so immaculately. The first incredible spec is its THD value: 0.01% at 1kHz. The frequency response in turn goes from 20Hz to 30kHz, with a 1dB tolerance. All the inputs and outputs are designed to ensure the highest levels of signal integrity – for instance, the premium XLR jacks from renowned manufacturer Neutrik. The DI 20P's input impedance is 500 kiloohms; if a pad switch is activated, reducing the signal by 15dB, the impedance is reduced to 10 kiloohms. The signal-to-noise ratio is 108dBu, meaning the device's inherent noise is extremely low. Finally, the DI 20P's weight of just 540 grams means that it is also incredibly portable.
