The HK Audio Polar 12 is an active column PA system designed for DJs, singer-songwriters, small bands, and presenters who need to deliver sound in small venues and intimate live locations. The set consists of a 12" subwoofer and a column speaker array. The column houses six 3" midrange drivers and a 1" compression driver with a CD horn. A mountable spacer allows for a variable column setup, ensuring the speaker section reaches ear level. A four-channel mixer accommodates line, mic, instrument, and AUX signals, providing precise signal control. The system's DSP section includes a three-band EQ with semi-parametric mids, three manufacturer presets, and sound optimisations for music, speech, or DJ applications. Additionally, five user-preset slots allow for custom configurations, and thanks to its illuminated LCD screen, adjustments are easy even in low-light conditions, such as on stage.
The HK Audio Polar 12 system is powered by a 2,000W bi-amping setup, delivering a maximum sound pressure level of 127dB SPL, sufficient for an audience of around 100 people. With a frequency range from 38Hz to 20kHz, it covers nearly the entire human hearing spectrum. The system allows precise volume control, as the subwoofer features an independent level adjustment. In addition to unbalanced line-level inputs, channels 1 and 2 feature combo jacks that accept balanced XLR signals, with input impedance adjustable via a switch. The system also includes an instrument channel with a 6.35mm jack and an AUX channel, which can also receive audio via Bluetooth. In terms of protection, the system is well-equipped, offering safeguards against under-voltage, over-voltage, overheating, and short circuits.
The HK Audio Polar 12 is a versatile system primarily designed as a mono setup. However, cover bands can use two units as a compact stereo PA system. DJs may also opt for a pair to provide sound reinforcement at events such as family gatherings and weddings. Singer-songwriters performing in smaller settings can rely on a single unit, eliminating the need for an additional mixer and complex wiring. Microphones and guitars can be connected directly to the subwoofer's built-in mixer, while playback devices can be connected via cable or Bluetooth.
For two decades now, the Saarland-based company HK Audio has been developing sound reinforcement systems for the stage. So far, the company has predominantly made a name for itself in Europe. HK Audio strives to combine ease of operation with cutting-edge innovation that meets the ever-evolving demands of the market, and its products cater for bands, DJs, and entertainers as well as a wide range of technicians such as sound engineers and installation specialists. To this end, HK Audio relies on its production engineers, who develop everything in-house. The company's ongoing commitment to quality includes a five-year warranty for all registered products.
Without the spacer element, the HK Audio Polar 12 is ideal for stages with a low ceiling. When used with the spacer, it performs well in ground-level venues such as pubs and bars. If deployed as a delay stack, the system includes an adjustable delay feature. The optimised mix signals can be output as a sum signal for recording or monitoring purposes, or as a submix to an FOH mixer. Designed to withstand the rigours of touring, all components, including the spacer, are protected by metal grilles and black acoustic foam. Additionally, the system comes with a padded nylon cover for the subwoofer and a padded transport bag with handles and a shoulder strap for the top speaker and spacer.
