Perfect for price-conscious podcasters

The Fun Generation USB One is a phenomenally affordable USB microphone for macOS and Windows. As an electret condenser microphone, its clear speech intelligibility and low self-noise make it ideal for podcasting. Thanks to an internal converter that works at resolutions of up to 16 bit/48kHz, no additional audio hardware is required for use. In addition to the microphone itself, it's shipped with a holder for mounting on a microphone stand and a USB cable as standard. As an affordable and functional all-in-one solution for voice recordings, the Fun Generation USB One is a good choice for podcasters who want to focus more on their content than on their audio equipment.

Fun Generation USB One podcasting microphone

Optimised for speech and singing

The Fun Generation USB One is optimised for recording speech and vocals and delivers good results even without extensive post-processing. The microphone emphasises the frequency ranges that are essential for voices, which ensures a present but not too thin overall sound. The fixed cardioid polar pattern ensures that the mic picks up sound coming in from the front in particular, while minimising unwanted room noise. Since the Fun Generation USB One doesn't have analogue outputs, the incoming signals can only be monitored on a device connected via USB, which does mean a small amount of latency. Generally, however, this constraint is not an issue, especially for voice recordings or podcast production.

The easy way to start podcasting

Anyone starting out in the world of podcasting has to master a number of challenges at once. As an extremely simply designed all-in-one solution, the Fun Generation USB One helps podcasters and their guests concentrate on what matters most – namely on delivering a convincing and natural performance. Compared to the most commonly used combinations of microphones and audio interfaces, the Fun Generation USB One is a plug-and-play device for a fraction of the price. And yet the results are still worlds better than anything that the internal microphones of smartphones, tablets, or laptops are capable of.

Fun Generation

Since 1999, the products of Thomann's house brand Fun Generation have been an integral part of the store's range. These products, which are made by renowned companies who also manufacture products for other well-known brands, provide a convincing combination of quality and reliability at reasonable prices. The product range includes music stands and other hardware, Bluetooth speakers, LED spotlights, moving head lighting systems, and complete active PA sets as well as LED effects, microphone pickup systems, cables, and splitters. Price-conscious customers in the field of lighting and stage technology are sure to find what they are looking for in this extensive product range, which includes over 160 items.

For podcasts, videos, streams and more

The Fun Generation USB One won't just appeal to podcasters, but can also be used in all situations in which speech is being recorded – especially when the microphone signal does not need to be monitored during recording. This also applies, for example, to the production of YouTube videos or tutorials, for live streaming games with commentary, or for creating spoken word audio of any kind. The fact that the Fun Generation USB One dispenses entirely with complicated settings and options also guarantees reproducibility: Recordings from different sessions will always sound largely consistent without requiring any real post-processing.

Brilliant value for money, flakey usb cable
Rowland Straylight 19.06.2020
I bought some of these as cheap USB mics for video calls and recording youtube videos in very basic studios. My mum has one and the other is on loan.

They are NOT large diaphram condensers, they are a small condenser in a large case. Still, they have a much larger capsule than you'd find in your webcam and the sound is very full and balanced.

I think my mum described it best as "that sounds like you rather than you on the telephone or you pretending to read the news" I think i should clarify that some as I tend to use whatever studio mic i have to hand when I make a youtube or a videocall and tend to have a very radio shock-jock or newsreader sound set up, it's very clear but it's also a "sound" rather than natural me. I'm not trying to say this is an AT4035, U87, or something I'd use to record a singer but it's not particularly flavoured either.

It's only 16 bit, which is enough for video call purposes, and it can do 44.1 and 48kHz but no better.

I wish it had an internal preamp booster, as it can be a bit quiet at times, easy enough to sort but sometimes required a bit of lateral thinking and it's maybe a a bit quiet used unprocessed.

But it's riduculously cheap and absolutely slays the competition at this price.

FJ
Basic but reliable
Filip Jandus 18.02.2022
This is very basic microphone. Best for some chats, you can record music too but the quality is about 5-7 of 10.
I use it for recording my brass instruments and it always sounds quite fade. Regardless that I enjoyed lot of fun and definitely made a progress.
If you need to check how few voices sound together this will 100% do enough. I wouldn't recomend it for public records though.

Not compatible with Apple Mac mini
Wakado 22.05.2020
I connected the Fun Generation USB One mic directly to a USB port on my Apple Mac mini to use for Zoom calls. Whenever I spoke the unit caused a low-level distorted echo that matched my speech pattern immediately after I had finished speaking. When I replaced the Fun Generation USB One mic with a Zoom H2-configured as a USB mic, everything worked fine so the incompatibility issue is with the Fun Generation USB One mic.
Apple Mac running OS 10.15.4

Pros: RMA raised without any problem so very happy with support from Thomann
Cons: I have to find a USB mic that works as I need the H2 for another task.
