Evans EC2 are one of the most balanced and dynamic heads I've used so far.
I play a lot of rock and metal stuff, but like my toms to sound clear and focused. These may not be the loudest heads, but sound almost as equally great whether played hard or soft; they really shine when hit a bit harder compared to jazzy ghosting. They are quick to open up but don't ring for long after the attack. On a cheaper set these heads really balance out the overtones and still make it easy to tune the drums to a clear note. In a live situation you get a nice, focused attack for micing purposes.
To sum it up, these heads have the pure, singing sound of a clear head and the focused punch of a coated one.
The EC2 are unfortunately not the most durable heads, despite their 2-ply build; Just a few weeks of playing and you'll probably see some dents forming in the "sweet spot" and though these don't affect the sound much at first, you'll be changing these much faster than for example ambassadors or emperors.
