Flexible positioning and customisable sound
The M-Audio BX4 are active multimedia reference monitors with a bass-reflex design and a two-way system consisting of a 1" silk dome tweeter and a 4.5" Kevlar-cone woofer. Positioned as a mid-range model within M-Audio's monitor range, they combine a compact footprint with a practical level of power for everyday monitoring tasks. The front-panel volume control allows both speakers to be adjusted together, while treble and bass controls on the rear panel provide options for adapting the sound to the room. A speaker position switch makes installation more flexible, as either speaker can be placed on the left or right side, helping to keep power and audio connections neat and efficient. A 3.5mm stereo headphone output is also provided for convenient personal monitoring.
Balance, frequency correction, and punch
The speaker system provides stereo inputs via balanced 6.3mm jack sockets and unbalanced RCA connections, while a 3.5mm stereo jack socket on the front panel offers an additional AUX input. With a frequency response ranging from 69Hz to 22kHz, the M-Audio BX4 covers a wide audio spectrum and is well suited to compact near-field monitoring applications, including detailed high-frequency reproduction. Bass and treble can be adjusted manually, with each frequency range offering up to 6dB of boost or cut to help match the speakers to the listening environment. Delivering 2 x 25W (RMS) of output power, the monitors provide enough energy for accurate near-field listening and a dynamic sound in smaller rooms.
Level-up
The M-Audio BX4 are a step up for anyone looking to move beyond the limitations of standard computer speakers and improve their monitoring setup with a more detailed and balanced sound. They are particularly well suited to home studios where users want accurate playback from their DAW while also needing a simple way to listen to audio from laptops, smartphones, tablets, and other devices without immediately adding a mixer to the system. The combination of dedicated monitor performance and flexible connectivity makes them a convenient choice for everyday music production, content creation, and multimedia use. Thanks to the additional AUX input on the front of the main speaker, external sources can be connected quickly and easily alongside the main studio setup, keeping the workflow straightforward and efficient.
About M-Audio
M-Audio is one of the best-known manufacturers of MIDI controllers, audio and MIDI interfaces, monitor boxes, and other studio equipment. Founded in 1988 under the name Midiman, the company quickly made a name for itself, always focusing on practical features and value for money. With the successful Oxygen series, M-Audio was instrumental in establishing the genre of MIDI controller keyboards for DAW-based studios. For a time, M-Audio was part of Digidesign / Avid. The brand is now part of the inMusic group and its success story continues to this day.
A highly versatile solution
The M-Audio BX4 are suitable for a wide range of multimedia applications as well as music productions where the reproduction of extremely low frequencies is not a primary requirement. When positioned correctly, they can also be used for live streaming without creating feedback issues, allowing users to work comfortably without relying on over-ear headphones or in-ear monitoring. Their clear and balanced sound also makes them a practical choice for recording and streaming podcasts. Beyond production tasks, the BX4 speakers are well suited to everyday listening, including music playback and film soundtracks. Thanks to their compact size and manageable design, they can also be integrated into mobile recording setups for bands and smaller production environments.
