I have tested these in an Alder-body Stratocaster with a maple neck and lace sensor pickups. Mostly I use Ernie Ball 2220s (Power Slinky Nickel Wound Electric Guitar Strings, 11–48 gauge), but often try other strings. These cobalt strings feel rougher, matte, and powdered. I got used to these factors fairly quickly, but after a few months and sets I still prefer the feel of the nickel-plated Ernie Ball Slinky strings. Compared with the sound of the Ernie Ball 2220 set, the cobalt ones have a more metallic sheen that is not a zing or a sparkle, but a thicker brightness. I did not detect a difference in longevity compared with Ernie Ball Slinkys. The overall quality is good and if you like the feeling of them and have a particular use for their unique tonal nuances they could be a great replacement for nickel-wound strings.
