Harley Benton MSB-5 Flip Flop Blue

Pros:
Low B is very good indeed
The flip paint is superb (green/purple despite being called flipflop blue).
Overall build quality is excellent.
No sharp frets (rolled edged)
Well balanced.

Cons:
Side markers are decals and will probably wear off quickly (but you could re-do them with a marker pen :)).
The body is an awkward shape for me and the neck profile is a little too thick because I'm used to Ibanez (but that's all subjective).

Ich habe mir diesen Bass als Einstieg in die Welt der Fünfseiter und Multiscale Bässe gekauft. Für das Geld erhält man einen schönen Bass mit tollen Features, wie Multiscale, Roasted Maple Neck, 2x9V Fächer und den verschraubten Single Cut.
Schon bei der Recherche fielen mir der Schriftzug "HZ" und die 2x9 V ins Auge und eine Vermutung/ Hoffnung für zukünftige Tunings kommte auf.
Als ich den Bass zu Hause am Verstärker anschloss fiel mir die niedrige Lautstärke auf. Er war deutlich leiser als mein passiver P/J.
Dafür kaum Differenz beim Umschalten von aktiv auf passiv. Tonblende im passiv Modus war homöopathischer Natur. Jedoch kam dazu, dass bei erhöhtem Boost der aktiven Elektronik starke Störgeräusch entstanden.
So setzte mein Tüftel Zwang verfrüht ein. Ich besorgte mir auf Thomann zwei EMG 40DC-X und die BQS Elektronik. Die Pickups passen perfekt in die originalen Ausfräsungen. Einzig die originale Klinkenbuchse muss ich noch ersetzen. Bei den EMG Sets sind nur welche für dünne Wandstärken, Pickguard, dabei.
Was soll ich sagen, Unterschied wie Tag und Nacht. Selbst in neutraler Stellung klingt der Bass wahnsinnig gut und benötigt kaum Cuts oder Boosts.
Ich muss noch weiter damit spielen aber bisher kann ich nur sagen dass ich jetzt einen Bass habe, der sehr viel, sehr gut kann. Selbst ein Spector-artiger Growl ist zu vernehmen. B-Saite ist sehr gut und die 18V befeurn das System in unbekannte Höhen (Headroom ist der Begriff dafür glaub ich). Sehr sehr zufrieden, aber erst nach Upgrade. Ohne Upgrade auch für den Preis der Hammer.

Ein Testbericht hat mein Interesse an diesem Produkt geweckt.
Was soll ich sagen, für den Preis unbedingt Empfehlung zum an testen.
Es ist mir schleierhaft wie man für dieses Geld ein brauchbares Instrument bauen kann aber es geht. Klar gibt es einige Kleinigkeiten am Lack und auch an der Bearbeitung die bei einem teurerem Instrument nicht hinnehmbar wären. Aber Sound und Bespielbarkeit sind für diese Preisklasse Wahnsinn. Wer eine Fächerbundierung ausprobieren will und nicht gerade n paar tausend Euronen übrig hat sollte zuschlagen.

This is my 5th Harley Benton bass and this one is in a league of it's own. I'm predominantly a 4 string player but have been wanting a multi scale bass for a while now and jumped at the chance when this became available. The finish of this bass is exceptional out of the box the setup was almost perfect. All that was needed was a slight truss rod adjustment and the b saddle lowering a touch. I could probably drop the action a bit more if I wanted but this feels great as it is. The neck is incredible so comfy and I didn't even notice the multi scale frets after a couple of minutes playing. The neck is as good as my Spector NS2 which cost more than 3 times the price of this. The electronics sound fantastic and the EQ is really responsive. Everything feels premium quality the tuners feel great, much better than some of the ones on my other Harley Bentons. I love the paint work and imagine all the other finishes are equally as good. At this price I can't see any other brand (that will be 2 or 3 times more expensive) being better. I can't praise this bass enough for the price it has to be head and shoulders above anything else in this price range.
