Schoeps CMC 1 U

I have a small arsenal of Schoeps. They work for everything and there is an ideal collette capsule for any recording situation. Their system is ingenious, the sound is beautiful, and I prefer them against other microphones on virtually any source.

The CMC 1 amplifier is a further improvement of an already fantastic microphone. The size is extremely diminutive and discreet, but boasts improved specifications and shielding over the larger CMC 6.

The machining and production quality on these is also a step above any of the competing brands. There is a comforting weight to each component, and a satisfying smoothness when assembling them.

It speaks volumes that capsules and bodies manufactured years (or decades) apart can be used as matched pairs. And it's a comfort to know that the elements of the colette system are compatible and consistent going back to 1974, and can be easily serviced and maintained to original specs. I find Schoeps is a lovely company to deal with as well.

Ich habe seit fünf Jahren das Supernieren-Paar von Schoeps und bin damit sehr zufrieden. Aber manchmal wünschte ich mir ein richtig kurzes Mikrofon mit XLR-Stecker. Sennheiser MKH 8050 und DPA 4018C sind mir ja bekannt, nur durchringen konnte ich mich nicht.

Dann hieß es: "We at Schoeps have something small to announce".
Was für eine Überraschung. Mit dem CMC 1 hat Schoeps das Colette-Mikrofon massiv verkürzt und eigentlich neu erfunden.

Aus der reinen Miniaturisierungs-Perspektive kann man fragen was es denn jetzt nützt ein 60mm-Mikro zu haben wenn die XLR-Kupplung mit Kabel 80mm dazuaddiert. Aber darum geht es nicht. Das Colette-Mikro wird ja 76mm kürzer und damit einfach erheblich handlicher. Mit einem PAD 10 kommen zwar 15mm dazu aber auch eine Pegelfestigkeit von 145 dB für Close-Miking mit der MK 41 an sehr lauten Quellen - und das bei nur 3dB mehr Ersatzlautstärke. Ich habe den Colette-Hobbit mal spaßeshalber auf eine V CLAMP oder auf eine MZH 604 montiert und die Position mit den jeweiligen Tom-Mikros verglichen - es würde gehen (mit dem Etat eines Senders im Rücken :D). Äquivalenz-Stereophonie sollte mit dem kurzen Colette auch besser gehen.

Wie der CMC 6 hat auch der CMC 1 die Kabel fest im Griff. 200m mitttelmäßiges Multicore sind kein Auftrag - am anderen Ende kommt der Sound für mich ohne hörbare Verluste an. Das ist nur eines die vielen Details die einfach stimmen.

Für mich ist der CMC 1 genau so gut wie der CMC 6, nur viel handlicher.
