Solid, sturdy and reliable
AdamFitz 03.03.2015
I was unsure about this stand! I was worries that it would be too heavy and unnecessary, but I was wrong. I wanted a hi hat stand that I could rely on and carry around without major stress. Don't get me wrong, it does have weight to it but it's worth it. The footplate is really steady and strong and holds it down. The three legs also can spin around the stand which is ideal for getting them out of the way if other stand legs. One feature I love is that it comes with two rods sizes. One normal sized and one smaller. It also comes with a really cool drum key and a clip to attach it to the body of the stand. I would highly recommend this stand. I know it's never going to let me down. I don't see much difference between this and the 9000 series stand, except that this one is cheaper so happy days :-)

Not for me

So this hi hat stand is really thick and heavy and still wobbles...
Aesthetically its truly very thick especially if you play on an 18, 14, 12 bop kit set. I've used a lot of hi hat stands on the same spot I used this one and most of them were very stable…
This one wasn't... And that really bumped me because it shouldn't wobble with all that weight and thickness…
The feel of the hi hat was weird. I am used to the directness of the Yamaha hi hats and this one was different. I think DW has a certain feel that is not for everyone…
Other than that it really feels like a really good and well-made piece of hardware. Its just not for me so went back to the Yamaha series I am used to…

DW Do Make The Best Hardware...

Industry standard hardware, loved by an infinite amount of touring drummers.
If you have a roadie/tech/someone carrying your gear, DW stuff is perfect because it's so reliable and sturdy and so heavy! If you're not bothered about the aesthetics of the 3 legged stand, I'd definitely go for the 2. Just to save on weight as it is just as sturdy.
This hi hat stand is on the weightier side but features a lot of classic innovative DW design. Great feel on the pedal that can have the tension adjusted (whether your a stomper or a heel toe rocker!). Clutch is solid. Memory lock means you get consistency setting up too.
The only downside is if you're a touring drummer, the pedal can be a bit awkward to fold in on itself. Once you've loosed the 2 tension bolts at the bottom, the pedal folds up easily enough but when you want to unfold you have to pull hard down against the tension of the spring and kind of lock into place. That's why I use a 9000 on tour as the pedal base just folds up as if it's on a hinge.
