An acoustic bass from the specialists

Warwick RockBass Alien Deluxe 5 Natural, acoustic five-string bass

Warwick has been one of Germany's go-to names for all things low-end for decades nows, and that expertise shines through once again in the Warwick RockBass Alien Deluxe 5 acoustic five-string. Premium woods with a transparent, natural finish give this unique instrument both its elegant appearance and its expressive timbre, with the low B string adding even more bottom end to the sound. And when needed, that sound can be amplified and shaped to taste thanks to the onboard pickup and the built-in preamp. Other highlights include the high-end hardware, a handy thumb rest, 24 nickel-silver frets, a generous cutaway, and a gig bag with tools included.

Exquisite ingredients

The top of an acoustic instrument is crucial in giving it a balanced sound: The Warwick Alien Deluxe has one made from solid AA sitka spruce, a top-tier choice. The neck is crafted from mahogany, while the back and sides are walnut, an extremely classy touch. Musicians have a full 24 frets at their disposal, while the wenge fingerboard is complemented by a bridge and thumb rest made from the same wood. The Deluxe 5 has a full-sized 34" scale length for a full-bodied sound, but a nut width of only 45mm – slim for a five-string bass – making it easy on the hands. High-quality chrome hardware, produced in-house, includes Warwick's signature adjustable nut and security locks system. And if this acoustic Alien's volume isn't quite enough, the built-in Sonicore piezo pickup and Presys Plus preamp, both from Fishman, will be happy to help.

From the stage to the garden to the beach

Since the late '90s at the very latest, an acoustic or unplugged set has been an essential part of every band's live repertoire. Of course, this means everyone – including the bass player – needs to bring along the right kind of instrument, one that looks the part and sounds it too. Luckily, the Warwick RockBass Alien Deluxe 5 passes these tests with flying colours: But it's not just built for live performances – it's also perfect for backyard acoustic sessions or simply jamming on the beach, since there's no need to rely on power outlets for amplification. With its attractive pricing and very high-end tonewoods, the Alien Deluxe is also a strong contender for consideration as an ambitious musician's second or third instrument – certainly, the frequencies added by the low B string will contribute something genuinely unique and useful to any collection.

About Warwick

Based in Markneukirchen, Saxony, Warwick, initially a manufacturer of premium basses, is known today for providing a wide range of music equipment in all sectors of the industry. The product range extends from bass guitars, bass amplifiers and cabinets (in all price brackets), bass strings and accessories, to effects units. In addition to this core business, the Warwick Distribution sales company offers almost everything that bass players, whether of four, six or even more string instruments, could require. Among them are the instruments of the Framus brand, which are remarkable for their consistently high quality. In addition to its headquarters in Markneukirchen, Warwick also has locations in Nashville and Shanghai.

All the basses covered

Warwick covers all the bases, basses, and bassists when it comes to gear and hardware, which includes a matching gigbag right out of the box here. But the German manufacturer also has plenty more tech for this Alien, starting with amplification: The compact combos from the BC series range from 10W all the way up 150W, offering plenty of power and superb sound for home use, rehearsal spaces, or smaller venues. For those who need more volume, Warwick's Gnome series is the next step up, with combos, heads, and cabinets ready to meet professional demands. Warwick also has accessories for every occasion: This includes exactly the right strings for the Alien acoustic bass (Warwick Red or Black Label), plus care products, tools, and clip-on tuners to keep everything sounding sweet.

Das Beste was mir je…
