A sturdy little cube

A compact passive full-range loudspeaker, the box pro Achat 104 offers its users excellent value for money. With its robust wooden housing, the 104 weighs 2.5kg, which is comparatively heavy compared to speakers with aluminium or plastic housings. The thickness of the material also makes the speaker slightly wider than other similarly equipped devices. At the same time, though, this design also makes it very robust – so it's well-suited to touring. L-brackets for mounting it on walls, ceilings, and stands are included as standard.

Broad frequency spectrum

Each the box pro Achat 104 is equipped with a 4" woofer and a 1" fabric dome tweeter. Of course, no would expect enormous bass depth with such small components, but with a frequency range of 100Hz–20kHz and a maximum sound pressure of 109dB, the speaker is ideal for spoken word applications or unobtrusive background music. The speaker can be directly connected to an amp or output with sufficient power. In addition to two parallel-wired speaker twist sockets, it has terminal connections for open cable ends, as both inputs and outputs, and the power handling capacity is 40W RMS at an impedance of 8 ohms. However, the power amp's output should ideally be about one-third higher than that, so as to effectively prevent distortion caused by clipping.

Tiny, flexible, and practical

Thanks to the variety of mounting options, one or more the box pro Achat 104 speakers are ideal for permanent use in restaurants, shops, medical practices and the like, but they're also at home in a living room or kitchen. The 104s perform well in mobile applications, too. As a small full-range loudspeaker without a subwoofer, a single the box pro Achat 104 is eminently suitable for spoken word applications such as readings or poetry slams, as well as for background sound reinforcement where bass is less essential. If more bass is required, additional subwoofers are necessary; Thomann's the box pro Achat 108 Sub A model is particularly suitable, as up to four 104s can be connected directly to the Sub's integrated output stage. Anyone who prefers to use their own external power amplifiers can, of course, go with the passive version of the same subwoofer and get a the box pro Achat 108.

Amazing sound but...

Amazing sound, but really requires a sub woofer. Alhough the bass is fairly weak, it is not muddy or flappy.

Cheap and cheerful. Inoffensive sound and stands up well against other well-known brands. Closest comparison appears to be the Control 1 and I would choose the Achat any day.
Feels well built, can take a bit of knocking about and does exactly what you'd expect from a small loudspeaker without trying to exceed itself.
It's not a 5 star loudspeaker as expected but it defiantly punches above it's weight. For what it is and at such a reasonable price it certainly deserves it's place on the kit-list.

It would be nicer without the glaring, white brand badge on the front but that's easily concealed...

Front Fill Wonders

I bought 4 of these to use as front fills when we tour theatre venues. They are fantastic quality in both build and sound quality and are absolutely tiny. Rated at only 40watts may seem small but you really can push them hard, especially with 4 of them across the front of the stage. We use them mainly for vocal reinforcement for radio microphones for both speech and singing and for musicals have not let us down. Have also used on live events such as cookery displays, conferences and exhibition. As expected for a 4" driver the low end bass is pretty much none existent but add a small sub and you have a really nice small scale full range PA system.
