Shure Beta 87A
Condenser vocal microphone
Because of its high precision and attention to detail as well as its natural vocal reproduction, the Beta 87 was already the first choice of artists and sound engineers around the world. This classic is now available in a new design under the name Beta 87 A. At the request of many users, Shure has thickened the shaft of this microphone for a more comfortable grip.
The Shure Beta 87 A is a high-quality, permanently polarized condenser microphone with supercardioid characteristics for vocal pickup, which is characterized by an exceptionally linear transmission range and high sound pressure resistance. It is used in professional sound reinforcement, in radio and in studio recordings and combines excellent sound quality with the robustness required for tour and outdoor productions.
The Beta 87 A has a bass roll-off that compensates for the proximity effect and prevents the dreaded boom during close-ups. The typical Shore presence raises the upper mid-range, while the supercardioid pattern ensures maximum isolation from other sound sources such as vocals or instruments and only allows minimal off-axis sound colouration.

Beta vocal microphone
The Shure Beta 87A is a supercardioid condenser microphone designed specifically for capturing the human voice with exceptional clarity. Its high-quality sound is ideal for live performances, providing clear and detailed vocal reproduction. Built to withstand the rigours of stage use, the Beta 87A features a durable housing and wire mesh grille that protect the capsule and internal components from damage. With a frequency response ranging from 50Hz to 20kHz, a sensitivity of 2mV/Pa, and a maximum sound pressure level of 140.5dB, the microphone delivers reliable performance even in challenging environments. It operates on phantom power, requiring a minimum of 11V and a maximum of 52V.
Optimised for vocals
The frequency response of the Beta 87A features a characteristic presence boost, common in many Shure microphones, which enhances transparency and improves speech intelligibility. To mitigate excessive sibilance, there is a slight dip in the critical s-sound range, preventing the sound from becoming too sharp. Additionally, the reduced bass response helps minimise the proximity effect, ensuring that even at close distances, the sound maintains a balanced and pleasant bass emphasis without becoming overly heavy. This bundle also includes a height-adjustable microphone stand from König & Meyer and a 9m Cordial cable, both of which are high-quality accessories that pair seamlessly with the microphone.
Technicians, bands and vocalists
The Shure Beta 87A is specifically designed for professional live sound applications, delivering a clear and present sound that ensures vocals stand out in the mix. Its capsule is mounted on an advanced vibration-damping system, which effectively reduces handling noise and other mechanical interferences. With its high-quality performance at an excellent price, the Shure Beta 87A is an ideal choice for professional sound engineers, bands, and vocalists. The bundle includes high-quality, stage-ready accessories, with a microphone stand from K&M and a long Cordial cable, complete with a convenient cable tie for easy cable management.
About Shure
The American company Shure began developing microphones during the early 1930s and is one of the pioneers of the audio engineering sector. Models such as the 55 Unidyne – known to many as the "Elvis microphone" – and the SM57 and SM58 which appeared in the mid-1960s are still ubiquitous in live sound production today. They enjoy cult status among musicians and technicians alike. In the 1990s, Shure introduced the first wireless microphones and in-ear monitoring systems and became a market leader in this field. In addition to microphones, Shure offers a wide range of earphones and headphones for studio and live use, as well as various accessories.
Perfect on stage
The Beta 87A condenser microphone excels in live venues, offering robust durability that can withstand accidental drops. Its vibration-damped capsule reduces handling noise and mechanical interference, while the built-in three-stage pop filter effectively minimises wind and breath sounds. The supercardioid polar pattern ensures precise vocal isolation, preventing off-axis sound sources from interfering. This, combined with its high level of feedback rejection, makes the Beta 87A a top choice for live sound applications. The microphone stand ensures the Beta 87A stays securely in place on stage, while the Cordial cable provides a reliable connection without signal disruptions.
