Less is more

The DSL1HR is the smallest model in Marshall’s long-established Dual Super Lead series. Its one-watt output makes it a lightweight in terms of power, but it is nonetheless a true all-tube amplifier – even if that isn’t readily apparent from its size and price. At the heart of the DSL1HR are two ECC83 tubes and one ECC82 tube which ensure that players can enjoy true Marshall tone without compromise, even at bedroom volume. But never fear: Anybody who knows just how loud one watt of all-tube power can be will seriously consider whether less isn’t in fact more.

A tiny package crammed with features

The DSL1HR’s two channels share a typical Marshall EQ section equipped with a bass, middle, and treble control. The front panel also features a Tone Shift switch that slightly scoops the mid-frequencies for a more “modern” sound. The rear panel features an Audio In socket, so you can play along to music from your mobile phone or computer. It also includes an Emulated Out socket with cabinet simulation, which immediately provides a suitable signal for recording or listening through headphones. One feature makes this amplifier a real gem in its price range: A series effects loop. The channels are of course also foot-switchable, and the amp’s features are nicely rounded off by a digital reverb unit.

Stadium sound in your living room

The Marshall DSL1HR is aimed at players who are looking for classic Marshall tone without shaking the walls in the process. This sound gets its particular flavour from the characteristic power stage saturation, which can only be achieved when the amp is cranked to full volume. The DSL1HR makes this possible at manageable volume levels, in addition to which the output can also be lowered to 0.1 watts using the Low Power switch on the rear panel, bringing stadium sound your living room. And the DSL1HR is also perfect for home recording.

About Marshall

Marshall, the manufacturer from Milton Keynes in Great Britain, is an indispensable figure in the world of electric guitar. The tube amplifiers of company founder Jim Marshall († 2012) have been writing Rock music history since 1962 with names like Pete Townshend, Jimi Hendrix, and Eric Clapton. The classics of the JTM, JMP, and JCM 800 series are still highly sought-after today, as they shaped the sound of overdriven and distorted electric guitar more than any other product. To this day, the combination of the amp and 4x12" cabinet - the "Marshall stack" - is synonymous with the energy and power of the Rock music genre. Alongside these landmark achievements, however, Marshall has always kept its finger on the pulse of the times and a close eye on the needs of up-and-coming musicians.

Ready for anything

Whether it’s loud or quiet, Marshall’s sound is unmistakeable – and players who are looking for that sound won’t settle for anything less. Luckily, the DSL1HR admirably upholds this Marshall heritage and comes at an extremely fair price. This little Marshall is by no means too quiet for rehearsals or gigs, however – and it will be a delight for sound engineers to mike up on stage. The DSL1HR’s 16-ohm output means it can be connected to the recommended 1x12” speaker cabinet or even a full 4x12”, the latter typically being switchable between 4 and 16 ohms.

One of the best for the budget !

I bought this product to use at home and Jam with the friends. I use it with fender pugilist distortion pedal and boss SD-1 for the moment. First i was going to buy blackstar ht1 mkii head, but i changed my mind since dsl1 has more features in the almost same price and I wanted to have Marshall for the first time and I am really happy.

The amp itself is well built, its beautiful , and good quality material is used obviously. It has FX loop and Emulated output which are really great features for this price point. Sound quality is very nice, you have Marshall valve amp tones in this price.

PROS - FX LOOP
- Emulated output which allow you to plug your headphones or you can directly connect to your audio interface like how i do for the silent practicing in the night. I use focusrite scarlet 2i2 third gen and sound is perfect. Emulated output with headphones also ok, but not as good as audio interface and then headphones. If you have both audio interface and headphones I would recommend to connect first to your interface and connect your headphones to interface too. But if you do not have interface, headphones you can also connect it is not so bad.
- Power reduction to 0.1 watt for home use perfect feature.
- Reverb, i use it with more clean tones and its ok not so bad.
- Footswitch is well built, it has long cable and made from really solid material feels really good.
- Also it has another cable inside which you can connect to your cabin or guitar whatever.
- Light, and handle is well made you can carry easily.

CONS- I did not see so far any of cons, I will give update if i will see.

Overall great product i am happy, I would highly recommend.

Edit - After almost 2.5 years of use, what ı can say is I recommend everyone who owns this amp should get an eq pedal. I was wondering why the OD channel sound not very clear compare to the classic gain channel, and I couldn't find the reason. Classic gain channel with any pedal its fine, but the OD channel. Recently on youtube, I discovered the BOSS GE-7 eq pedal and that is the pedal that brings clarity to the OD channel of this amp. FYI friends! Check out BOSS GE-7 also a lot of things you can do with an eq pedal.

All the best to all of you ! Cheers !

So much powe in such a tiny box

THE Marshall tone in a smallest package - perfect for practice and still more than capable to annoy the neighbors. Don't get fooled by the 1W mark on this baby - this little beast kicks ass!

Great tone, super small size, plenty of tone options.

The only small con is the single 1x16ohm speaker output. Whout be great to have the 1x8ohm for more cabinet options.

Nevertheless it's my favorite amp so far.

Amaising "little" beast
Draghiem 09.11.2020
Hey there,

I bough this as i actually wanted a Marshall Tube head without blowing the neightbours.

Both channel sound amaising.
I have try it on a Marshall 1x12" and it was nice. But now, this Precious goes into a custom shop 2x12" and I am totally blow away.

If you have doubts, i recomands you watch the video from a Youtuber called "Ola Englund Will it chug" and make your own opinion.

Personally, I am actually pleased with this amp.

Anyway, there is one important thing to consider : This amp only accept 16 Ohms cabs
