P
Excellent bass, amazing neck feel, the wood colours :-)
Pete.W 05.02.2024
Coming to bass as a long time guitar player, I was really happy to get the Sire P5R. I've always loved Rosewood fingerboards and a simple bass made sense with a great look (natural finish colour). The neck is thick and rounded, but in a way that fills the hand without overwhelming it (I have small hands). The edgeless fingerboard is extremely nice and the instrument comes across as being far more expensive than it is. I tried multiple Squiers and Fenders in the local shop that cost more or even double the price, but comparatively they were very clunky feeling. Incredibly clean fretwork and setup overall, just a slight truss rod turn needed and nothing else done.

For sound, I'm running it through a Fender Rumble 100 combo or recording software. The sound is very full and deep sound, as you would expect from a P-bass and I can hear a lot of difference when you move towards and neck or bridge. I'm learning as a fingerstyle player mostly but having slapped it a little bit, it can do that, but with a lot more punch and less twang.

I keep coming back to the look, as shallow as that seems though, because the roasted maple on the neck is almost as dark as the rosewood fingerboard so that in my hand it looks like I'm holding a two tone piece of chocolate. I'm also completely sold on the front of the headstock where the roasted maple is lacquered for an even darker shine, that makes the silver writing really pop. Truly one of the nicest looking instruments I can recall seeing, especially up close and to get this for 488 euros is a steal.

My only slight negative is that the bass head is slightly heavy as the instrument tends to sit fairly horizontally in my hand. I have a wider leather strap and it's perfectly good to play, but I have heard people change the tuners for lightweight ones and say it improves this. Personally, for the relatively simple bass lines I tend to play, this is minor negative.

As good as they say

I have been playing various instruments, mainly bass, for over a quarter of a century and can confidently say this is an incredible bass guitar. And there is no "incredible for the price" caveat, this is a straight up great instrument regardless of price.

If you want a P-bass get this, it plays, feels and sounds so good.

F
An incredible value that became my forever Precision Bass
FirasR 27.06.2026
This is my second Sire bass, and I absolutely love both of them. After my first experience with the Sire P7, I had high expectations, and the P5R exceeded them.

Straight from the factory, the bass was already excellent. The alder body, roasted maple neck, rolled fingerboard edges, satin finish, and overall fretwork are outstanding for this price. It plays far above its cost and has that classic Precision Bass sound with plenty of warmth and punch.

Over time I turned it into my ideal instrument:

* La Bella 760FX Flatwounds completely transformed the character. Warm, smooth, woody, and perfect for Motown, soul and blues.

* Gotoh Res-O-Lite GB528 tuners significantly reduced the weight at the headstock, improving balance while making the bass feel even more premium.

* CTS Vintage Audio Taper pots and the Orange Drop capacitor made the tone control much more usable. Instead of everything happening in the last few degrees of rotation, I now have a smooth sweep that lets me dial in subtle shades from open and articulate to deep vintage warmth.

* Pure Tone output jack provides a reassuringly solid cable connection.

* Allparts metal barrel knobs finish the bass perfectly with a classy vintage-inspired look and a more substantial feel.

The result is an instrument that feels far more expensive than its total cost would suggest. It has become my “pick up and play for hours” bass. The combination of the lightweight tuners, La Bella flats, and upgraded electronics gives it a refined, inspiring feel every time I plug in.

The best compliment I can give it is this: after owning and playing much more expensive basses, this is still the one I reach for when I simply want to enjoy playing.

Sire with their Marcus Miller line of basses have created an exceptional platform. The fact that this is now my second Sire, and that I would happily buy another, says everything about how impressed I’ve been with the brand.

Highly recommended!
