Harley Benton PB-Shorty BK Standard B-Stock

Harley Benton PB-Shorty BK Standard B-Stock

Short scale electric bass

Not everyone has long fingers (and no, nothing criminal is implied here), and many of those people also like to play short-scale basses.

Aside from the length, the sound is also different, because the shorter scale creates a less wiry, softer, and more unobtrusive tone, which simply fits perfectly with many styles. And there are plenty of examples too, especially from the 60s: Paul McCartney and Jack Bruce were famous for producing great sounds on a shorter scale.

What it's equipped with: Everything you need: 1 PB pickup with volume and tone control; bolt-on maple neck ... as with the larger P-Bass model; and because of the price, it is an ideal instrument for bass newcomers!

Shuffle off

LoTone, 21.10.2009
I've bought the HBP90BK as a cheap "just-so-so-between" bass, which is always handy in the corner.
Thanks to the short scale length, he is easily stowed away in our small car next to the holiday baggage and so sweetenes me the otherwise instrument-free time.

The processing of the HBP90BK shows light and shadow, but with a clear overweight of the light!

The neck makes a good impression, as well as the fret, the fretboard, the hardware and the paint. Unbelievable, what is offered for the little money.
The pickups are passable, do not knock one, but are also not grottenschlecht.
The milling of the pickups and the pocket is, however, somewhat imprecise. The strings do not run in the middle over the pole pieces and in the halstasche one can hide a thin Plek if necessary. The hit is not, but in view of the price you can also turn a blind eye. Other manufacturers supply such quality with a 500-EUR bass.

Tonally I expect from the HBP90BK no miracles and certainly no finely articulated wood tone of a 4000 EUR bass from the instrument maker. So I am not disappointed at all: the HBP90BK delivers a decent bass tone, which fills all necessary frequency ranges. The main focus is on a strong accompaniment sound, which can be varied as usual by the way of playing and the stop position.

He is very comfortable playing. The short scale is a "simple course". The strings are comfortably low, the body shape ergonomic, the bass well balanced.

Well, what can you say?
It is simply the hammer, which is offered with the HBP90BK for the few Euros.
The HBP90BK offers a good performance as a beginner bass, especially for children, women, small people, or as an intermediate bass.
I always have a lot of fun with it!

How convincing ....

Audire, 19.07.2010
So I can really explain that I am not. A (shortscale) bass for grad times 70 tacks and in the set ca 50euro. Of course this instrument is not a bass for a professional but beginners as well as quite advanced will have their fun. What can one expect from such a part actually? From the price of nothing but when one holds it in the hands looks the whole around a lot differently:

I do not want to talk about the processing. The lindenkorpus consists of approximately 4 parts (in the lower 3-digit range completely normal). Potis and the jack connection are after 1 year still as the first day (since I have worse for the price double). Neck can also be adjusted and the belt pins serve as they should. Only the griffbrettende in the corpus could be more beautifully designed but does not work the processing.
The works were with me completely unusable. The e saite was quite dull in sound while the remaining 3 wires were not going to go anymore. Went so times nothing more. So boomers on it and it sounds like it should sound. The mechanics are not so the force. Closed and yet long-lasting but fine tuning the thick E site is not easy with the vocal or 5-7 method. Is also more than satisfactory for the beginning (note +2)
But these are eigtl more so small things (that works are not the force is synonymous with profimodellen normal)

In the topic of coplanarity comes the problem that is given with most of the instruments of harley benton. It has to be said that the bass at level eigtl always comes to an end. There are a lot of other things that can be used in the game, but it is not a good idea. So here everything is ok

More importantly, especially at the beginning: sound and playability

Playability:
Because of the shorter mensur one becomes quasi from the stegreif to the bundflitzer. Ideal height and thanks to good factory setting snarted nix from the 1st to the 21st bund. The neck is not too narrow and not too wide, so the beginner has an ideal string spacing.

And last: the sound:

At first not so very enthusiastic (also vll wg the works) I am now after a year but convinced by the bass. The is not the sound of a 700 euro bassen but not quite the 70th for fully-upright eq so evengenges settings klingts then so:
With tone to 0 one has a very depressing depth even if it is not quite as tight as with a longscale. In the high positions (from band 12) the bass then has a deep voluminous tone

At tone on 10 siehts at once completely differently: down there is properly precis sound of the original already quite well rankommt for the price class. With plektrum played one increases the completely again properly. In the high places sounds whole open and bright. Quite the opposite to the empty tone-regulator. For fast change from the deep begleitton to the fast solo so optimal

Of course there is also the tone-poti still pay between 0 and 10 but really noticeable the differences are not. It does not need my opinion. IMPORTANT: when you play around the tone-controller, the guitar does not forget: if you play with empty tone on 7-8 you should turn the tone to 10 the volume to about 3 runterstellen. Also better live. Because you can use that also

I'm also thinking about whether to add new pick ups. But the sound already sound good (with the new sound then probably profi-sound should be) and the fact that the planned pickup is just as much as the bass in the whole ^ ^
But I think that will still come and then the report here will also be read
