Epiphone Viola Bass

Viola bass guitar

Short-scale basses may have become a bit outdated, but if you love the sounds of the 60s, you'll have a hard job getting around avoiding them.

For the Epiphone Viola Bass, the name comes from its violin-like body shape, and its prototype, the legendary Höfner violin bass, is now commonly referred to as the "Beatles Bass". For Beatles and other 60s sounds this is an absolutely compulsory addition to have!

Epiphone Viola Bass

Moulin, 28.10.2009
Certain things, which have accompanied us since childhood, subconsciously float around our heads again and again, and then come to the fore when we meet these forms of the past in the present.

For me it was not even how one could possibly assume Paul McCartney, who promoted the desire for a violin bass, but Kelly Groucutt from the Electric Light Orchestra, who was on stage with such a bass fiddle in the early 70s.

Well, the desire for such a device I had since I played bass, but so far never realized, as my main basses are more to be found in the Longscale area, which is the reason why I'm not after an original Höfner Which is priced at a much higher price level, according to its quality.

Since I usually have a certain quality at the time of buying a bass, I have already found it hard to buy a bass from the low - cost segment, but the current dumping price has finally deprived me of the decision.
specification

The manufacturer does not already give what I can only interpret as a missing image care. This comes from the fact that everything is offered under a label from the luxury instrument to the cheap sector.

With the Epiphone Viola, which like many other basses in its genre as Höfnerkopfen is praised, one should remember that one gets indeed a violinform, but not a Höfnerbass! The term 'copy' does not do justice to its name. I think one would say to all solid wood basses not necessarily Fender copy, just because they are basically the same built up.

The Epiphone Viola is at present a cheap offer, with now 239 euro in the trade and since one must recognize immediately that the price for what the bass offers now is appropriate, but it is also clear that it is not possible Semiaudio - bass in this price segment to a high level drive. The production of an instrument with hollow corpuscles is much more expensive than that of a solid body, and so one can imagine what one finds with these favorable basses.

As already known, the frames of the viola are punched out of stacked, glued plywood boards and then installed. This kind of production is the cheapest thing you can think of, and a guitar builder is sure to get rid of her hair. A reasonable derivation of the vibrations over this kind of frames on the bottom of the body is almost impossible. To cover up the eye, the frames are painted black. It is questionable whether the viola still needs a sustain block in this design! sound

The bass plays audibly even without electrical amplification, is even almost as loud, but you can not hear bassy sounds because of the shortscale scale. The one gets only at the Amp.
Surely the bass because of its construction has its own character, sounds increasingly very bassy. Especially with the neck pickup. With a bridge pickup, the sound becomes a bit brighter, but more metallic. The height regulation brings a lot of wealth into the sound.
All in all one must like this sound, otherwise the bass is without chance.

Because of the high, metallic sound, I could imagine this bass exclusively with the Thomastik flatwound strings, because the wooden part of these strings can counteract the much too bright sound of the small bass. The factory - mounted, soft roundwound strings are absolutely unacceptable for me.

The small Epiphone Viola gives you a lot of guitars as well as a lot of guitars.

You have to be aware that this instrument has nothing to do with a precision bass with a maple neck in terms of bass sound.
