Compact studio-grade bass amp

The EBS MicroBass 3 is a highly versatile analogue preamp that gives bassists full control over their sound in any environment. Designed in Sweden and based on technologies from EBS's flagship HD360 and Fafner II amps, it features two fully independent channels – Clean and Drive – that can be run in series or parallel, allowing tones to be split or blended, creating a wide range of textures. This flexible architecture delivers everything from pristine modern cleans to gritty rock drive, further shaped via a comprehensive 3-band EQ with a semi-parametric mid sweep (110Hz–5kHz) and a musical VCA compressor for added consistency and dynamic control. With pro-level connectivity for live, studio, and quiet practice setups, the EBS MicroBass 3 is a compact yet fully equipped hub for serious bass players on the move.

Dual-channel tone sculpting

Like yin and yang, the EBS MicroBass 3's two fully independent channels offer everything from clarity to grit to create a wealth of contrasting bass tones. The hi-fi Clean channel draws from the EBS HD360, while the Drive section channels the aggressive character of the Fafner II. Whether run in series or parallel, both channels can be precisely blended with each other via a dedicated knob, generating textures that range from studio-smooth to raging distortion. The Clean section includes Character and Bright switches for mid-scooped or airy modern tones, while the Drive channel features Hi/Lo gain engines, a 3-way Type switch (Thin/Normal/Deep), and dedicated Tone and Level controls for fine-tuning distortion behaviour. The shared 3-band EQ with sweepable mids (110Hz–5kHz) further refines tone-shaping options, while the musical one-knob VCA compressor smooths out dynamics without compromising clarity.

Professional-grade connectivity

Few preamps offer the routing flexibility of the EBS MicroBass 3. In series mode, its 10 mega-ohm high-impedance input accommodates virtually any bass, including passive pickups, active circuits, and even piezo-equipped acoustics. Operating at a professional signal level with ample headroom, the MicroBass 3 integrates seamlessly with mixers, interfaces, and power amps, delivering clean or processed signals simultaneously via its dual balanced XLR outputs – configurable for pre/post EQ or stereo FX loop return. The rear panel also includes a stereo-capable effects loop, a dedicated input for the Drive channel, a serial/parallel switch, and a ground lift. An auxiliary input and headphone output round out the feature set, making the MicroBass 3 equally suited to travel setups, quiet practice, and complex live or studio rigs.

About EBS

The Swedish amplifier manufacturer EBS has been producing professional equipment for bassists since 1988 and has gained an excellent reputation in the scene with powerful solid-state amps. The portfolio of the company has been constantly expanding over the years, so that EBS is now really broadly positioned with bass tops, combos and cabinets in various price and performance classes as well as an extraordinarily successful effects pedal series. It offers solutions for almost every bass-relevant application. No wonder that even international bass heavyweights such as Billy Sheehan, Stanley Clarke or Tony Levin rely on EBS products on tour and in the studio.

Real-world versatility, professional-grade results

Many bassists have experienced the frustration of arriving at a venue or festival only to find the provided backline isn't up to par. With the EBS MicroBass 3 tucked into their gig bag, that problem disappears: Its dual DIs allow players to bypass substandard amps entirely, shape their tone with precision, and send it straight to FOH. In the studio, the pristine signal path and dual-channel design allow clean and driven tracks to be captured independently or blended on the fly, with comprehensive EQ and gain controls that often remove the need for extra processing. Whether used as a pedalboard preamp, studio DI, or gigging backup, the rugged build, transparent tone, and user-focused features of the EBS MicroBass 3 offer real-world versatility and professional-grade results.

Great little box on the stage or the studio
Profond 17.11.2020
This box is a bit of a lifesaver. It offers a wide range of tone shaping possibilities with 2 EQ channels. You can bypass the EQ and work with the preamp on your bass. The 'character' is a great scoop filter and the 'bright' is awesome - switch it on and slap away.
The overdrive sound is not very impressive; in my case I prefer to set the drive channel 'clean' and I combine it with the clean channel to get more variety in my tonal palette. The 3 way 'deep' switch is interesting. The 1 knob compressor is a little meh. It has 2 DI outs allowing you to go stereo and an onboard tuner. It's a problem solver, offers many options or a 'Plan B'.

Clean DI, Transparent Preamp, Versatile Drive
LeventJazz 22.03.2024
This unit really gave me 3in1, I was seriously considering to buy a seperate DI, Preamp and a Drive Pedal. All of the options on this is top notch, noiseless, neat and sturdy. Boosting the EQ doesn't feel artificial, It's analog and feels organic. You can get 6 different drive from the switches, and they all can be EQ'd seperately and blended with the main preamp. Possibilities are endless and It caters to every genre. I tried a subtle drive on peaks for jazz, deep drive for another project and all out madness for fun. It gives me joy every time, 10/10 recommended.

The pedal can do so many things at once, and is a lot easier to navigate than you might think at first glance. For anyone travelling or short on space, the MicroBass 3 is an effective solution to several issues we contend with as bassists. The amount of control the pair of XLRs provides is truly a godsend for anyone who dreams of easily hauling their 2-channel studio rig to gigs. And when you consider the upgrades since the previous-generation MicroBass, such as the onboard tuner and compression, this pedal is well worth some time and attention. blue box impressed me .

At
Great sound and usage
Adrian the man 29.12.2021
I've been using this as my DI(no amp) since i got it, and it really sounds great! I don't care about the distortion part(doesn't sound great to me), but i like there's a tuner. Could be a bit cheaper compared to similar options, but all in all super great
