The ultimate tool for bass guitar

The lines between stage use, studio work, and home recording are becoming increasingly blurred, especially with the rise of in-ear monitoring and silent stages, which has driven demand for compact live solutions that feed sound directly to the mixing desk. Darkglass has responded to these modern requirements with the Anagram, a professional bass preamp that combines a neural amp modeller, speaker simulations, more than 50 effects, a looper, a tuner, three operating modes, and extensive, ready-to-use presets – plus D.I. output and an FX loop. With high-resolution signal processing, intuitive control, and virtually unlimited tonal flexibility, the Darkglass Anagram is a true all-in-one solution for bass players on stage, in the studio, or at home.

Everything – and so much more

At the heart of the Anagram lies a high-speed hexacore processor that enables latency-free signal processing at 32-bit resolution and a 48kHz sample rate. The integrated NAM engine, developed by Neural DSP, is complemented by more than 50 effects and a comprehensive parametric equaliser, all of which can be freely arranged on the large high-resolution display using an intuitive drag-and-drop workflow. Via USB-C, the Anagram connects to a laptop or tablet for deep editing, loading custom cab simulations, and full control through the free Darkglass Suite software. In addition, it functions as a professional audio interface with D.I. output and a headphone connection, making it a powerful hub for any bass setup.

THE solution for live and studio situations

The question of who the Anagram is suitable for is easy to answer, as it is designed for virtually everyone. It provides a solution for almost any situation where a traditional amplifier is not strictly required, from practising with headphones on the sofa to home recording sessions and demanding professional use on stage or in the studio. Above all, the Anagram is an ideal choice for players seeking a high-quality, flexible all-in-one tool in a compact and portable format. With more than 50 effects – up to 12 of which are usable at the same time – and professional NAM amp and cabinet simulations, it will instantly appeal to anyone who enjoys experimenting with sound and needs a system that can adapt to constantly changing scenarios.

About Darkglass

Darkglass is a Finnish company that has focussed exclusively on the needs of bass players since its creation in 2009. It was their high-quality preamp, overdrive and distortion pedals which drove the company’s early success - and after only a few years they have become a fixture on the world scene and market for all things bass. For some time, Darkglass has been expanding their offer with their own amplifier and loudspeaker series and thus provides the modern bassist with a wide range of professional tools.

Three operating modes

Thanks to its three distinct operating modes, the Darkglass Anagram can adapt smoothly to virtually any situation and playing style, making it equally approachable for beginners and experienced users. Preset Mode is ideal for those who prefer simplicity, offering quick access to a growing library of ready-made sounds that can be easily adjusted and saved as personal presets. Scene Mode lets musicians dive into deeper sound design, with detailed parameter control that will especially appeal to players who enjoy fine-tuning every aspect of their tone. For those seeking a more traditional approach, Stomp Mode recreates the familiar feel of an analogue pedalboard, allowing up to four effects to be switched on or off directly via footswitch.

The ultimate stage chameleon – Precision, consistency, and evolution
ZeTRukes 16.02.2026
As a bassist playing in a covers band, my requirements are strict: I need total versatility without adjusting every knob between songs. After weeks of deep-diving into the Darkglass Anagram, I can confidently say this is not just a pedal—it is the most sophisticated signal management system I’ve ever used.

The Chameleon Factor & Stage Efficiency is the real magic. The ability to transform your entire rig instantly. In a covers repertoire, I need to jump from a warm 70s vintage vibe to a modern, aggressive synth-like pop tone or a precise jazz fusion sound. With the Anagram, I’ve eliminated the stress of turning knobs between songs. Every gain stage, compressor setting, and EQ curve is saved. More importantly, the internal pitch-shifting is so high-quality that I can handle different song tunings without changing instruments, keeping the workflow seamless.

Surgical Routing & FOH Independence One of the most powerful features i’ve exploited is the routing flexibility. I can send a fully processed XLR signal with specific cab IRs to the Front of House (FOH) to give the sound engineer a "studio-finished" tone, while simultaneously routing a different signal to my stage monitors. This allows me to compensate for my own stage acoustics or my stack’s coloration without affecting what the audience hears. This level of independence is something analog setups simply cannot provide with this level of footprint.

Precision Processing Blocks The processing blocks are clearly engineered for bass. The EQ block is a masterpiece of articulation; it’s powerful enough for heavy stylistic coloring but precise enough to surgically notch out a troublesome room resonance that only appears in certain venues. The IR (Impulse Response) implementation for amps and cabs is exceptionally faithful, providing a weight and "air" to the sound that makes the digital transition feel completely organic.

A Living Investment I also appreciate that this is a "living" product. Darkglass is constantly pushing firmware updates that aren't just bug fixes—they add real value and new features. Knowing my gear is getting more powerful every month provides great peace of mind. Also there is this untapped potencial due to expression pedals and midi pedas that can be added, as well as many features that I didn't yet explored and tested.

So, if you are tired of the "tap-dancing" between songs and want a professional, bass-centric brain that handles complex presets with high-fidelity consistency, the Anagram is in a league of its own. It has completely changed how I approach my live performances, allowing me to focus 100% on the music while the Anagram handles the engineering.
Very much recommended

Huge little box
MarksBass 30.10.2025
I've gigged a few times now with the Anagram instead of my pedal board and it does exactly what I need it to and more...

I read a lot of reviews, watched a lot of demonstrations, and waited months after it sold out on it's initial release and was not disappointed in any way at all. It is everything I hoped and more, and so easy to use even a bass player can work it out ;O)

c
This replaced my pedalboard
chkhd 14.02.2026
+ I don't have a super-fancy pedalboard, and this managed to completely replace it.
+ The included stuff is more than sufficient to create dozens of tones to fit anything I played so far, from classical all the way to hardest metal stuff.
+ There is so much more to explore! Neural stuff, tons of additional presets! and more and more is becoming available! I am slowly dipping into more and more stuff and finding it fun and exciting.
- There is no power switch. Not an issue on the pedalboard, but considering you can use this as an audio interface to the computer it would be welcome.
- The twisting controls are not precise.. the amount of time I have to spend trying to set something to 10.0... not to 9.9, not to 10.1... but to 10.0 omg, it drives me insane sometimes..
- Cannot fully run from USB-C connection, you do need to connect the power supply even if using it as an audio interface.
