The Sound (5/5):
Bold new world. The instrument takes basic concepts of a subtractive synthesizer and elevates them with modern technology in a way that allows completely new sounds. The grotesquely high-fidelity DDS oscillators are best I've heard on any synth or module (analog or digital). Audio-rate modulation on multiple points (VCF / VCA / DDS sections) and spatialization options with the binaural mode allow the sounds to transform in surprisingly large range. However, if you want an instrument that sounds bad this is not for you. The Super 6 sounds beautiful no matter what bonkers patches you throw at it (such as modulating delay time individually for the 12 voices with LFO2). The effect section is limited, but even the ones offered are kind of redundant, since the basic sound of the synthesizer is so wide, complex and compelling.
The Build (5/5):
This is the most well built machine I have seen in my life. Seriously. Reinforced steel frame, doesn't flex or bend at all. Every fader, switch and knob feels sturdy and gives reassuring resistance when moved. The metalwork of the case is astonishing: curved edges on the sides so it's nice to lift up, nice round lip on the back to protect the connectors. This thing will last way beyond a lifetime.
The Aesthetics (5/5):
Ever wanted to fly on an Apollo mission? Travel through interstellar space to Proxima Centauri? This thing looks (and sounds) like it's a control panel of an advanced space ship from 300 years into the future. Stunning retro-futuristic colour scheme on the panel and markings.
The Playing (5/5):
The Super 6 is a flow-state synthesizer. No screens and comparably limited modulation options means you will interact with the panel in a direct manner - you know, like an instrument. This reminds me a lot of the old analog instruments where WYSIWYG. Playing this thing is a joy - the mod wheel is really high-fidelity (how?).. pushing it creates this variation in pitch that is so high resolution I'm finding myself using it a lot more than others synths. UDO are selling poly aftertouch retrofit upgrade kits - so I imagine playing this thing will only get better...
The Stuff-To-Improve:
This is not really a con, but the Hold button acts backwards: when it's engaged ALL notes played will get added to the same hold. Usually (at least in my other synths) hold adds notes only so long as some key is held down - and after pushing a new key once everything is unpressed a new hold stage begins that holds the new notes and the old ones are released. The way Super 6 does this makes hold kind of silly. But this is a minor thing overall.
