Easy USB MIDI connectivity

I bought this converter to connect a Yamaha P-121 digital piano as a controller for Nord Electro 6D. I made some pre-study of different options and it turned out that this Kenton box with newest firmware is the safest choice to make. Yamaha P-12X series' USB connection is actually an USB hub providing MIDI, audio interface and legacy file transfer feature. Thus all USB MIDI hosts (and really old firmware versions of Kenton) do not work properly with with that piano.

Kenton works well out of the box without any configuration work. In some reviews the price has been considered too high, but I think that 20-40 EUR extra is really worth it if it provides operation without trouble.

This device is really small and light. Extra care has to be taken if it will experience life on the road. I am planning to attach it to a effect pedal board.

Tarvitsin perinteisiä midi-liitäntöjä ja olin vähällä vaihtaa pois hyvin muutoin palvelevan Yamaha 105-pianon. Siinä kun on vain tietokoneeseen liitettävä USB mahdollisuus. Boxi toimii eikä tarvitse mitään asennuksia tms.

Tämä boksi on itselläni Alesis Vortex Wireless keytarin ja Roland FA-06 synan välissä. Voin siis soittaa langattomasti keytarilla synan saundeja, ja keytar ei vie mikseristä paikkoja. Varmatoiminen ja kevyt.

Works very well with Roland GO Piano

I connected the micro-usb connection of the Roland GO Piano to this little box, and this onlocked a lot of new features.
Using the MIDI Out at this box the Go Piano can be used as a master keyboard to control other instruments.
When connecting a MIDI Controller (like the Roland A49) to the
MIDI In at this box, you can activate the hidden GM2-bank in the Go Piano, which gives you 128 additional sounds (!) to select through MIDI Program Change commands and then can be played on the piano keyboard.
By sending MIDI Control Change commands (like Resonance, Cutoff-filter, Modulation, etc.) it's possible to alter the sounds of the Go Piano, which leads to whole new sounds!
