SOMA Terra Organic Dark

Sound:
Terra is a highly versatile polyphonic and microtonal synthesizer. Its capabilities range from producing beautiful tones to intricate atonal noise, all with smooth and rapid transitions between these sonic extremes. Its sound is exceptionally expansive, evoking a sense of spaciousness in the pads it generates (Digs into your soul!). The inclusion of microtonality allows you to delve into more complex soundscapes, to craft your own scales and break free from the conventional Western note system. Online you will find plenty of examples, just dig a bit and you will see that you can grow from sci-fi stuff, to noise to church oriented soundscapes in matter of seconds.

The Interface:
Despite its unconventional shape, TERRA's interface proves surprisingly intuitive. Its absence of a screen means you won't find yourself navigating through labyrinthine menus. Virtually everything you need is readily accessible (or nearly so). However, I strongly recommend reading the manual (RTFM); dedicating just 30 minutes to this will significantly enhance your learning curve, enabling you to focus on the joy of playing and creating beautiful soundscapes.

Note: If you have particularly large or small hands, I would advise you to test it out in a shop first, as this may impact the instrument's usability (distance between the sensors is same for everyone)

Core of the Product (why buying it?)
Terra is fundamentally designed for PLAYING and PERFORMING. Its sensors exhibit remarkable sensitivity, providing a delightful level of expressiveness. In my opinion, Terra caters to those who relish the tactile experience of "touching" and "playing" rather than extensive programming. It's the kind of instrument that, once opened, throw you into a meditative session lasting hours, fostering a deep connection between "gesture" and "sound".


Price:
Yes, Terra comes with a substantial price tag. Why? Well, it's because the components used are of exceptional quality, and considerable effort has gone into conceptualizing and designing the instrument. We all understand that inexpensive equipment often falls short in durability. Personally, I have no regrets about the investment I made in this instrument (thus far). Sometimes, I simply open it and use it as a meditative practice.

Ich bin etwas ernüchtert. Der Klang ist okay. Er ist auch nicht so gewaltig wie bei der Lyra. Aber passt schon. Bedienung ist simpel. Viel passiert unter der Oberfläche. Die Touchsensitiven Knobs hab ich mir etwas sensitiver vorgestellt. Momentan fällt es mir schwer, immer die gleiche Sensibilität anzuwenden. Was hatte ich mir erhofft. Nun ja, so etwas vom Klang her, wie eine Hang. Nur elektronisch. Mit mehr Klangvariationen. Vor allem mit mehr Programmiermöglichkeiten. Problem ist, viele Funktionen/ Parameter sind fest vorgegeben. Gerade was auf der linken Seite zu finden ist, Knobs A-D. Klar durch die sensitiven knobs gibt es die Möglichkeit die Parameter zu beeinflussen, nur diese Sensibilität hab ich noch nicht richtig heraus gefunden. Eine Rückgabe ist bei mir leider ausgeschlossen. Wohne im Ausland. Daher stellt sich eher die Frage… Würde ich ihn nochmal kaufen? Nicht für das Geld. Er ist zwar wirklich Wertig, aber halt klanglich nur okay. Es ist ganz klar ein Performance Instrument. Nix um seinen Solo Gig zu bereichern. Der Arpeggiator ist mehr ein Gimmick, als wirklich zu gebrauchen. Zumal es nur ein paar Algorithmen sind, die diesen bereitstellen. Also um mal im Chillout richtig aufzufallen und die Blicke auf sich zu ziehen, dafür ist er perfekt geeignet. Ich denk auch mit nem passenden Effektgerät dahinter, Microcosm oder Cosmos also auch mit Loop Funktion, ist das vielleicht schon ganz anders. Was mich richtig stört ist, dass die Synthese Parameter A-D fest vorgegeben sind. Teilweise sind die Werte dieser Synthese Parameter mir aber viel zu heftig. Der Vlad ist musikalisch manchmal sehr exzentrisch unterwegs. Das merke ich auch an dieser Stelle. Manche Werte würde ich gerne mehr begrenzen. Damit es nicht so sehr abdriftet. Das ist aber nicht möglich. Ich glaube wenn der gute Vlad die Software unter der Haube frei zugänglich machen würde, wäre das schon mal ein Schritt in die richtige Richtung. Ich stell mir da so eine Art Software, wie beim Anyma Phi vor.

Also wenn ihr mal ein Loch habt ... was wir Synthusiasten ja gerne das ein oder andere mal haben ... ist dieses Gerät genau das was dir die Spirit wieder gibt ... Die Tasten [MPE] sind so Innovativ das man gar nicht mehr davon lassen möchte ... Und jetzt kommt der Hammer ... Midi sendet das ganze sogar ... bedeutet jeder Synth der bei euch im Studio steht hat dann über die DAW MPE ... wie Geil ist das Bitte ... von mir ganz klar 5 Sterne in allen Bereichen ... Soma macht Bitte noch viel viel mehr !!!
