A great instrument...but...

I have bought 8 HB basses for myself and one guitar as well. I also purchased a few more guitars, basses and ukes as gifts as well. This one by far exceeded my expectations as far as sound and build quality. The alder body really resonates and it is a very lively, punchy bass for sure. Pickups are great. No need to go shopping for replacements. Tuners. Check. Finish. Flawless.

One issue. The only issue. The frets above the 12th were not finished or leveled well. Tons of dead notes and buzzing. I do set up work on all of my basses and never ran into one this bad before. It took a lot of work to get them to where they needed to be, but in the end it was well worth the effort instead of sending it back.

This one is definitely a keeper.

I may go for the Jazz version next!

You won't find anything better in this price range. It was exactly what i expected and what i needed. Yes with some setup and probably better pickups it can sound like a premium instrument, but even right out of the box - it is incredible.

Nonostante l’imballaggio esterno arrivato abbastanza malridotto, il basso (e relativo imballaggio, avevo ordinato anche altre cose) è arrivato in ottime condizioni. Perfettamente settato, addirittura accordato, a dimostrazione che ogni strumento viene accuratamente controllato.
Pro:
- dal punto di vista della liuteria è quasi inquietante: la qualità del legno è ottima, verniciatura curatissima, fatto salvo forse l’alloro della tastiera che potrebbe essere il punto debole dal punto di vista della qualità, ma il roasted maple è semplicemente bellissimo. I tasti (in acciaio!) sono posati perfettamente, senza spigoli taglienti o altro. I quadrettoni sono veramente belli e i dot sul manico sono posati in maniera maniacale;
- l’elettronica è eccellente e fa il suo dovere: ci sono bassi più costosi con pick-up decisamente più scadenti. Forse i potenziometri (che comunque offrono una buona resistenza) sono una parte più economica, ma per questo prezzo va benissimo. Un upgrade va seriamente valutato, proprio per la bontà della parte liuteristica;
- ponte e meccaniche invece sono proprio professionali: le meccaniche son praticamente le Hipshot mentre il ponte addirittura è in acciaio e le sellette in ottone. Non so quanto possa costare acquistarlo singolarmente;
- è praticamente un Jazz vintage col corpo di un Precision, quindi grandissima maneggevolezza e “botta” di tutto rispetto, anche molto definita.
L’ho acquistato come muletto, ci ho anche registrato immediatamente in studio: silenziosissimo, oltretutto.
Contro:
- ci ha messo oltre sei mesi ad arrivare!
Seriamente, per questa cifra non ci penserei due volte ad ordinarlo. Questa serie è pazzesca.

Ich bin happy ...

Der Bass ist top. Ich habe ihn mit meinem aktiven Sire V7 1. Gen. verglichen. Ich spiele Fusion. Im passiven Modus beide Bässe zweifelsohne in derselben Liga. Angenehm leicht. HB kann man über 2 x Volumen beide Pickups unterschiedlich triggern. Das geht beim V7 nicht, weil nur 1 x Volumen. Das finde ich beim HB besser. Sire V7 ist im aktiven Modus vielseitiger und natürlich kräftiger. Das kann man so aber nicht vergleichen, weil der HB "nur" passiv ist. Der HB ist ein wirklich ein guter Bass, nicht "nur für das Geld". Ich habe die dicken Black Nylon Tape "Rotosound Tru Bass" aufgezogen. Der Bass geht "fingergestylt" bzw. "geplekt" richtig ab. Hervorragende und schnelle Ergänzung gerade mit diesem Saiten zum Sire V7 mit Elixier Saiten (slappy sound). Ich bin happy.
