GFI System Skylar Reverb

Honestly, I'm in love with this reverb. I use it mainly with Behringer Odyssey (sometimes with other analogue synths).
My main experience is with digital ITB reverbs (plugins) and I'm quite picky. many years I've been looking for a reverb that is not either an emulation of a real space or digital emulation of such. I've been looking for a reverb that works as "an effect" that enhances the source signal but it's not taking over.

Spatium mode:
The sound is beautiful. It's like a cloud or pillow that surrounds the source signal, but it never gets in its way. Even when set to 100%. Reverb is not cluttering the sound when set to long times like many other reverbs. It's not metallic. Modulation, even when set to higher levels doesn't sound like a chorus added on top of a reverb. Spatium mode is very well calibrated for trance-y plucks, synth arpeggios etc. I'm pretty sure that it would sound awesome on an acoustic guitar (I wish I could play one to check).

Shimmer mode:
I can't stand shimmer reverbs. I had a very short period when I liked them. Skylar is not that bad at doing this. it's not over the top, doesn't make me feel sick. Even as not a shimmer reverb fan, I'm using it from time to time because it's gentle enough. Descendant shimmer is nice but I'm yet to find usage for it.

Plate mode:
I don't really use it. Not because it's bad or anything. No, it's actually very pleasant sounding. It's very nice but I have Spatium mode which I prefer more.

Tremble mode:
I like it as much as I like Spatium mode. Not a type of reverb that I'm using often thought.

Overall, it's my favourite reverb ever. I like it more than any plugin that I collected over the years. It has something special that I can't hear in the plugin realm. This pleasant, heavenly sound is simply gorgeous.

I'm highly recommending this pedal. I was choosing between this one and Hall of Fame 2. I'm glad that I chose Skylar.

Any complaints? Not really. Just that this pedal forced me to buy a good power supply (1Spot Pro CS7) because otherwise when chained with other pedals it was making lots of noise (due to its digital nature). 1Spot solved that issue completely.

Immer noch auf der Suche nach einem Stereo Reverb, das meinen Plugins und das Wasser reichen kann, habe ich mich für das Skylar entschieden. Der Preis und die schiere Menge an Algorithmen des Specular Tempus hatten mich bis jetzt von GFI ferngehalten.

Das Skylar an sich ist schön kompakt, leider hat der Netzstecker nicht an die Stirnseite gepasst und liegt einsam an der linken Seite des Pedals. Das macht es irgendwie doch sperrig.

Die Doppelbelegung der Regler finde ich schlechter gelöst als z.B. bei Meris, bei denen man mit einem Button alle Regler auf die zweite Funktion umschaltet und dann fröhlich weiter frickeln kann. Beim Skylar muss jeder Regler separat gedrückt und dann gedreht werden, während(!) man ihn herunterdrückt. Da die Zweitfunktionen genau so wichtig wie die ersten sind, finde ich das sehr umständlich. Vermutlich wegen der zugrundeliegenden Technik sind die Regler außerdem etwas schwammig. Wie lange die halten ist schwer zu sagen.

Wichtiger ist natürlich bei einem Effekt nur der Sound, und der ist ziemlich gut. Viele lange Reverbs klingen für mich schnell rau, rauschig oder wirken irgendwie "grau", weniger wie ein Raum, sondern wie ein Nebengeräusch. Das passiert beim Skylar nicht. Die vier Algorithmen sind sinnvoll gewählt und machen ihre Sache gut, die Eingriffsmöglichkeiten empfinde ich trotzdem als etwas eingeschränkt.

Fazit:

Auch wenn mir der Skylar Spaß gemacht hat, geht er wieder zurück. Wenn man ihn mit dem Specular vergleicht, wirkt er auf mich etwas zu teuer mit nur 4 statt 32 Algorithmen und weiteren eingesparten Funktionen. Wenn man genau das will, was der Skylar hat, ist er natürlich top ;)

Je ne saurais donner une revue détaillée de la GFI System Skylar Reverb, car je débute dans ce monde incroyable de la musique amplifiée, mais justement pour les novices, peut-être cet avis se montrera utile. Je joue sur une Electro Harpe Camac 36 cordes et la Skylar est parfaite que ce soit dans les cordes graves ou aigues. Pas de saturation du son même sur des accords à 8 notes, les transitions restent agréables et le passage d'une fonction à l'autre en mode "j'adore tourner les knobs pendant que je joue" ne s'entendent absolument pas.
Facile d'utilisation: dès qu'on la branche on se fait plaisir et l'exploration des sous menus ouvre en douceur de nouvelles possibilités.
La fabrication est irréprochable : solide, pas de bruits ni d'accros quand je pousse le bypass, contrairement à d'autres pédales dont j'ai fait l'acquisition, petit format bien agréable.
Je n'ai qu'une chose à dire : absolument comblée par mon achat
