Blown away

matt-h, 21.04.2018
What an amp. Let me give you my backstory to fully understand why I'm so amazed by this amp. Until now I've mainly used my 100W Engl SE which is a true high gain beast. Not only the Engl sounds great it is also versatile and easy to use with it's midi capabilities. But there's a major downside.. the weight. The great sound and the versatility weights freaking 25kg. I've also realised that my sound consisted of mainly 3 - 4 sounds like clean, rhythm and lead which got me thinking if I actually need such a big amp. After a really in depth research I decided to buy:

THE KRAKEN.

Even though I heard only good things I was still sceptical if it can deliver the gain I was searching for and used to by using a high gain amp for so many years. So I bought it, got it, plugged it, put everything on 12 o'clock, gain 2 and ... BOOOOOOM .. What a sound. I've instantly got a feeling like I found the sound I was searching for my whole life.

But ok, you still have to consider few things before buying this amp. This amp is not for sparkling fender cleans or to have any special additional features. This is a small amp that delivers amazing high gain sound. And it does that with perfection. Even with my Engl SE I was using a tube screamer in front of it to tighten up the bass and boost the mids. I don't feel like I need it here. But what I love about this amp the most is that even though it wasn't built for certain things like clean, it still delivers much more cleaner sound that any other amp that was designed for this.

Long story short: EPIC!

A beast for all tastes

26.01.2017
INTRODUCTION:
Purchased months before the current review but I will tell you this small but powerful beast will fulfill almost all the musicians who love tube amps.

This magazine is all based on an inordinate amount of "Gain" ...
However if you know play well between Gain and Master controls they can achieve clean tones and crystalline.
The head in question has two channels: the first could be called a vintage (high) gain, while the second channel is for those seeking modernity and wants to rise to the elusive "djent" ... and beyond.

PRO:

With 50w (interchangeable with the various switches) Total'll be able to play in any live environment since the head produces very high volume levels.

with the channel "Gain The" coupled cylinder head fitted with a hollow body suitable to pick up and you'll get a pretty good jazz stamp; do it with a layer or a tele increasing slightly the Gain and otterrette a sweet but scratchy blues sound; or increased a little the gain and badgered your Les Paul and head down to rock 'n' roll or metal.
Furthermore, the first channel is a good base for those who also lives of pedals.
With the channel "Gain II" coupled a guitar in drop, no matter what, drop D - C - B or a Baritone guitar ... and here all lovers of heavy metal howl modern miracle.

The equalization section revert very useful as very responsive, especially in the midrange frequencies .. And it is common knowledge that are the very ones to make the unique stamp and it is heard in a mix.

The head provides the ability to change the valves and this is a very crucial point.
If you use 6L6'll have a reasonable amount of low frequencies more. Here it will come in handy the small button "Bass Focus" (located in the back of the amp) that will remove a fair amount of low frequencies.
If you mount EL34'll typically be less low and the "Bass Focus" will serve you even that much, at the same time you will end up with a different conformation medium frequencies that will make (especially the first channel) even more Marshall-oriented.

The footswitch supplied can be used in two different ways and in both cases will return very useful, since the amplifier has two separate master that can be used in various ways:
-as a volume compensator when switching from the first to the second channel as the channel "Gain II" as well as having much gain also gives a natural increase in volume and thus it would be necessary to lower the master.
-like clean integrated boost if in a situation of "Only" you need a bit more volume.

The price range is quite above the average for the launch box, but the quality offered makes you almost do not feel the pain in having spent about a thousand euro .. so a quality / price ratio estimated 10/10.

For its small size and its weight, leaving everyone speechless when you say that in this little box to be gray tuna is hiding a shark 50 watt.

AGAINST:
after months and months of use in the house, rehearsal room and live?
I unfortunately have not yet been able to find problems and personally I think it's a good thing.

FINAL:
After all, those who buy this amp knows that will have to expect a jewel done in so beloved England; that sounds good; that is simple and without frills.
UNLEASH THE "KRAKEN"
