O
Great sounding, responsive strings!
Olofson 13.10.2021
I tried these on my rather resonant, "Italian sounding" violin, and I'm really liking the powerful, rich tone, and quick response, and the instrument Just Works(TM) with these strings. I'm going for another set!

And yes, I'm using the full set. This violin has had some wolf-like tendencies on the lowest notes on the E string, so I've used various whistle-free special strings (though I never had a whistle problem with this violin), as they somehow eliminate the wolfiness as a side effect - but with the PIs, that problem is gone.

Prior favorites are Evah Pirazzi Gold (responsive, big sound, can be played aggressively without choking), and Warchal Timbre ("brittle," sophisticated tone, instant response), which both sound great, although quite different. I'd say the PI is somewhere in between, possibly even combining the best aspects of both.

As for durability, I've used my first set for about four months, and while I'm starting to notice minor tuning and response issues, they're still perfectly playble! An Evah set tends to be dead after about two months in my experience, whereas a Timbre set can last for up to half a year (!), so I think the PIs are doing alright in this regard.

Brilliant Strings
milkpowder 23.12.2020
Have come from using Evah Pirazzi (greens) for over 15 years. The Peter Infeld aren't as powerful or bright under the ear, but offer a warmer, more nuanced/complex sound. They do take a day or so to settle down and for the full sound to develop, and I actually prefer the PI sound to EP greens. However, the EP Gold set is perhaps more impressive straight out of the box with a more sonorous lower end (D and G) without sacrificing volume or response. I would love to compare the PI with the EP Gold again.

On my violin, the platinum E is noticeably more powerful than the other three strings, but to my amazement still retains that bare steel E sweetness. It's still on the bright side, but not overly so. In comparison with other E strings, the Evah Pirazzi steel E is a little dull in the higher positions. The EP gold E has a rounder tone, but less sweet. The EP Gold steel E is has a rounder tone but lacks the same sweetness as the PI platinum E, and the Oliv gold E offers a rounder, more brilliant tone, but perhaps isn't as sweet. I think it's a real toss up between the Oliv E and the PI platinum E!

Lastly, tuning stability is good. Longevity - to be confirmed!
