Squier Sonic Mustang MN Torino Red

These cheap Squiers really are hit and miss. I've had a few and nearly all have problems with the necks. Some even after intonation simply will not be in passable chord playing tuning. EG: you can be playing a E major perfectly in tune and you go to a C and you'd swear you'd picked some students guitar that has not been tuned? (nut too high, buzzing frets, choking frets etc) It's like they have absolutely no QC, you wonder why Fender would want to be associated with these Squiers? I suppose you could spend another 100 Euros to fix them but what's point?

This guitar is great for beginners and experienced guitarists though for different reasons.

Oddly I don’t think it’s suited for the middle ground, eg as a second guitar when you are committed for the foreseeable future.

For beginners it’s a great set of all-round features to get you started. There MIGHT be some issues with fret ends and set up that might impact playing, but these are not of great concern (both because of infrequency and because of the safety net of Thomann’s returns service). It also works as a great modding platform, when you’ve outgrown the pickups, bridge, tuners you name it.

This is consequently what makes it great for advanced guitarists. Someone of experience, who is comfortable modding it DIY, who can manage some basic setup steps to tune it to their liking. Can find a solid foundation to build upon.

As someone who is still early in their exploration of the electric guitar, who wants an instrument to love for the core years where they’ll likely develop a style, write songs and gig etc, you might not have the experience, skill or frankly interest in doing what a luthier should be paid to do - you go buy a more expensive instrument that’s ready to rock out of the box.

Je m'attendais à un produit plutôt cheap. J'avais déjà eu entre les mains des Squier Stratocaster chinoises il y a une dizaine d'années, dont le son non-amplifié et amplifié, le feeling sur le manche, la qualité des potards (le plastique) n'étaient pas terrible. Mais après avoir vu plusieurs reviews positives sur YT, j'ai sauté le pas, voulant avoir une guitare "iconique" à moindre prix.

D'emblée, j'ai été "choqué" par la légèreté du corps en peuplier par rapport au manche érable, et on a l'impression d'avoir un jouet en main. J'aurais préféré une touche palissandre ...

Mais...après un accordage des cordes d'origine et quelques notes jouées, j'ai trouvé qu'elle avait un très bon son naturel et un bon feeling sur le manche avec le pouce comme avec les accords posés.

J'ai joué quelques jours avec les cordes d'origine pour entendre la différence : sans surprise, il n'y a pas photo, changez tout de suite les cordes mises en usine par des cordes dignes de ce nom, dans mon cas des D'addario EXL125 (9-46)

La finition est de très bonne facture. Il y a quelques plastiques à enlever protégeant les différents éléments.

Sur un ampli Marshall à transistor, j'ai pour l'instant une préférence pour le micro chevalet, au look des Mustang et d'un très beau noir.

Je ne suis pas fan du sélecteur de micro mais probablement que je la pimperai avec un switch de Mustang. Peut être que je mettrai ensuite le dynamic vibrato original de la Mustang, la vraie ;)

Les potards me semblent les même que ma Jagstang de 2004. Pas de crachotement sur la prise Jack.

J'ai acheté cette guitare pour en avoir une qui ne craigne pas au travail et pour pratiquer sans ampli, ne voulant pas emmener ma Strat, ni ma Jagstang ;) J'ai l'impression qu'elle n'y restera pas tout le temps comme c'était initialement prévu. :)

En conclusion, une très bonne guitare pour débutant, à un rapport qualité prix imbattable, ou pour pratiquer quotidiennement :) comme guitare secondaire (d'étude on dira)
