Soundbrenner Core Steel

This watch is an awesome tool for keeping in rhythm in a quick and easy way that's always on your wrist. The metronome itself is super easy to use and the vibration is more than enough to feel when playing guitar or drums. The tuner works fine but isn't perhaps as "fast" as other options (pedals etc). It comes in avery neat package and you get a few extras as a bonus.

The only real downside is that is doesn't have nearly as many features as a "regular" smartwatch. It's in that way sort of a one trick pony, although very nicely put together. I bought one for myself as a main watch and just recently but another one for my dad who isn't in to the "smart" products anyway.

I would strongly recommend the Soundbrenner if you're a musician, although perhaps not if you want a fully fledged smartwatch experience. I would also get the steel version in favor of the regular one, as it's more durable and sturdy feeling.

All in all a very clever idea and a nice experience.

the vibration is simply too weak for a drummer. It can work very well with other musicians, but I would not recommend for a drummer. Tried on the chest, pulse, feet... I also thought that the display would be a nicer one, like apple Watch or even the cheaper Chinese versions of smartwatches, but... the display is one of the cheapest versions you can find. You cannot increase the size of the display... Don´t waste your money with this....

Needs a little testing to decide how and where to wear and use but the possibilities are plentiful with the provided straps.

A bit of a shame the tuner requires a sizeable magnet (only one supplied) to be fixed to the guitar - I have therefore not used nor even tried this feature.



A hiccup in the Ableton Link connection (it could not see and would not connect to Ableton) was rapidly rectified but the feature remains a little flaky - it has a tendency to drop out and need restarting.

Gleich vorweg: Wenn Soundbrenner sagt, es handele sich hier um ein Music Tool im Uhrenformat, darf man das getrost glauben. Damit meine ich, dass alles auf die Musikfunktionen fokussiert ist, das Thema "Smartwatch" darf man hier nicht wirklich ernst nehmen. Denn die Soundbrenner Core Steel ist in etwa so smart wie eine Digitaluhr aus dem Jahr 1982. Minus Weckfunktion. Im "Uhrenmodus" kann man die Zeit und das Datum ablesen. Außerdem hat sie eine Stoppfunktion und einen Timer. Fertig.

Es lässt sich weder die Helligkeit des Displays anpassen, noch die Form, Größe oder Farbe der Ziffern (gut für den der es hell und klein und weiß mag). Davon ein analoges Zifferblatt nachzubilden, nun ja, ganz zu schweigen. Auch die automatische Anzeige bei Handbewegung lässt sich nicht deaktivieren.

Der Unterschied zur Digitaluhr von 1982: Die lief mit einer Batterieladung 2-3 Jahre, hier hingegen hängt man nach drei Tagen am Ladegerät. Vorausgesetzt man benutzt das Metronom nicht. Das ist ja für eine Smartwatch nicht ungwöhnlich, nur während die dabei den Puls messen, die Schritte zählen, macht die Core Steel halt gar nichts. Effizient ist das nicht.

Es ist also keine Uhr mit Metronom sondern ein Metronom von dem man die Zeit ablesen kann.

Die Metronomfunktion ist fantastisch in der Flexibilität, umständlich zu programmieren (über die App gehts) und zieht Strom ohne Ende. Geht davon aus, dass nach ein paar Stunden Schluss ist. Und als kleines Gimmick: Die App läuft dabei im Hintergrund mit und ist extrem ineffizient. Nach ein paar Stunden üben besteht also nicht nur die Gefahr, dass man die Zeit vergisst, sondern auch, dass man nicht mehr telefonieren kann...

Das Stimmgerät ist toll gemacht, aber... wer will kleine Magnethalterungen an seine Gitarren kleben? Für mich zumindest kommt das nicht in Frage. Und wer braucht das überhaupt? Man hat doch Stimmgeräte überall, im Telefon, als Clip On, als Pedal, im Übungsamp, halt überall.

Das Dezibelmeter ist leider völlig unbrauchbar (möglicherweise ein Defekt beim vorliegenden Gerät?), da ist meine Gratissmartphoneapp genauer.

Und trotzdem hätte ich das Teil vermutlich behalten, einfach weil es schick ist. Aber leider hat Thomann mir die falsche Farbvariante geschickt. Und ob ich wirklich 300 Euro für ein so unausgereiftes Produkt ausgeben will? Ich bin noch unsicher.

Ach ja: Die Produktbeschreibung enthält einen Fehler: Es sind keine Ohrhörer im Lieferumfang enthalten. Es handelt sich dabei um Ohrstöpsel zum Schallschutz.
