Mini Zuul does a good job
Matopotato 04.07.2021
I tried Mini Zuul, ISP Deci-Mate micro, Boss NS-2 and Stone Deaf Noise Reaper Noise Gate against each other.
The Stone Deaf does a decent job, but ended up last among the 4.
Boss NS-2 is different in how it operates and did not get as quiet as ISP or Zuul.
In the end the ISP and Zuul both do a great job. They are very silent, with the ISP maybe a notch more "clean silent" if that makes sense.
They are set up in the chain and FX loop differently, but sort of equal here. Perhaps the Zuul is easier, but requires a split signal to work at its best.
When it comes to long sustain or low guitar volume or soft picking , both the Zuul and ISP end the tone a bit pre-maturely for my liking.
They way the ISP does it is not so graceful, so here the Zuul does a better job and I would have it the winner of all 4, but with the NS-2 doing its thing a bit differently making it harder to compare them.
If you play mostly Heavy Metal or thereabouts you can not go wrong with either ISP or Zuul IMHO.
But for me the reduced sustain was too much to accept unfotunately.

Pros: Nice and quiet.
Fast to open and close the gate
Set and forget is easy to dial in

Neutral: The way it does sustain cutting is decent

Cons: Sustain is cut too early
The need for a splitter (tuner, EQ, separate splitter) can be off-putting, but it gets better with it.

One knob wonder pedal!
Symphonic Metal Martin 29.05.2020
I was looking for a noise gate to control the natural amp hum from the preamp section of a Mesa Rectifier cranked to high gain. I found it straight away with the Zuul Mini.
Straight out of the box, plugged in and it silenced the preamp noise immediately with no loss of tone or volume, with a natural sounding gate that tapers away smoothly. That was without even touching the only control knob!
The key input alongside the audio input enables this pedal to work REALLY well, I have it setup being fed from an Audio Technica wireless with two outputs, one to the pedalboard effects and the second into a tuner then into the Zuul Mini. This gives the Zuul a totally clean reference signal to optimize the gating process.
It works brilliantly, is small, light, and most importantly - looks METAL !!

Sidechain noise gate! oh yes
Oskar Rolstad Buvarp 10.09.2020
I use this as a sidechain noise gate, meaning a kick-drum og hihat triggers the key input - and opens the gate for my guitar to be chopped rhythmically by the input signal. Genius effect for expanding the guitar sounds and function. Sidechaining a noise gate is a typical studio-tool.

I want to point this out because this is not an obvious feature for the ZUUL, despite Fortin amps says somewhat similar in their description of this pedal. SO this pedal is not only for Djent etc.. this is a genius piece of equipment for "modern" musicians looking for expanding what guitar can do. Or bass. Or vocal. Audio triggering audio. its beautiful

Worth the Money!
Bigman_Allen 27.10.2020
I have had this now for a few months and i cant get away from the 'bump' it gives to my tone.

I have been using the NeuralDSP plugins with a virtual version of this however putting this at the front of the chain definitely add 'the sauce' to my tone.

I have used this with Fishmen Fluence, EMG's and BKP's and comprehensively say its worth it!!
