AKG D5 S

As many others, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this mic considering how low the price is. I'd even consider this the top contender to the Shure SM58 in terms of bang for buck, if not an even better choice. The mic feels sturdy and weighs a bit more than you'd expect a "cheap" mic to weigh. Could definitely be used for live purposes although I myself haven't tried that. It sounds good on vocals, a lot better than I expected actually. I'm a baritone and making use of the proximity effect works well with this mic. The only drawback I can think of in terms of recording quality is that it's slightly boxy somewhere in the low mid range but I have been able to remedy this with some simple EQ-ing.

I did try the mic with some different percussion instruments and it didn't shine as much in this regard but it got the job done more than acceptably.

Also, the built-in pop shield works well but isn't perfect, so if you want to make sure you don't get any volume spikes from plosives and stuff like that you can use a separate pop shield as well. However I personally like the sound of this particular mic best up close - but to each their own.

If you're looking for a very well-priced dynamic mic for general purposes (and perhaps a bit more specifically, vocals) I defninitely recommend this little secret beast!
