A very good distortion tone, but lacking just a bit of strength...
BogdiWanKenobi 17.06.2024
I recently bought this pedal, not with the intention of getting a RAT clone, I just wanted a good distortion on my pedalboard which I can use on any amp's clean channel in case where I don't have my own amp around.
In the end I can say that I am quite satisfied with it. The only aspect I find a bit disappointing is that I feel it lacks the strength I thought it would have. You can dial in quite a lot of distortion from the gain knob, but I still wanted it to be more "punchy", forceful. However, it is not a deal breaker in my opinion, as it can easily be fixed with an overdrive in front. I'm currently using the Zeus Overdrive from TC to boost it and I'm getting very good results. The overdrive is quite transparent and I feel that the Magus Pro does not loose any of it's character.
Apart from this, the tone itself is really good. There is a noticeable difference between the 3 switchable modes. The turbo mode sticks out the most I think, but I prefer the classic mode overall. I also like how the Filter knob works, as it is not the typical "tone" knob from other pedals.
Overall, I am happy with, even though I've yet to use it live, I think it's a good and useful distortion tone.

A good pedal but not what it is compared to.
Darth Jim Jam 05.09.2022
This pedal is "advertised" as a RAT copy/clone. I bought one so that I could have that RAT sound with the addition of the options on the switch. However, after placing it on my board and comparing against my own RAT with a pedal switcher, it was clear that they are not the same. Whilst we are in the same ballpark, the EQ is not the same and it didn't have the same "chewy crunchiness" that the RAT had.
However, if you are not specifically looking for a RAT clone/replacement, then this may work for you. It starts with a crunchy overdrive and goes up to silicon fuzz. The modes are good and it gives you a good boost capability that the original RAT does not have.

Flexible and affordable Rat clone
Archion 11.01.2022
I wanted a Rat pedal for some time and was plowing through some different options. I chose the Magus pro mainly for the additional two modes and affordability. Also in classic mode the gain knob seems to work a bit better in the lower gain area, so you can quite easily get some lower gain drive sounds. SO yeah, quite a lot of flexibility in this small pedal!
We also tested it with my friend's Behringer TD3, which is a 303 clone and it sounded awesome! So now he wants to get this pedal too.

Sounds like a Rat
Kostas_ 04.09.2022
I compared it A-B to my Rat and in the Classic mode it is nearly identical. The Magus retains more bass overall compared to the Rat, not sure if that's a good or bad thing, I guess it will show in a band context. The original Rat sounds a bit more honky overall, but that could be variance from Rat to Rat even, due to component variance.

All the modes sound good. The gain knob has a much more even taper than the original Rat that goes from 0 to 7 in the first few degrees of rotation and then stays between 8-10 for the whole remaining rotation, so that's an improvement over the original. The switch doesn't have a tactile click when turning on/off. It is smaller that you would imagine from the photo, great for pedalboard real estate, plus all jacks are on the upper side.

One big downside is that the switch engages not when you press it but when you release it. This can make it very hard to activate the pedal exactly when needed in a song. But if it is always on it is not a problem.
