Pain in the butt and a really fun music toy

Assembling was fun (apart from bending the metal parts), although screwing system is really bad, it's very easy to overwind in places so that it becomes loose anyway. It has some and "out-there" nice sounds but once you want to pair it with other musical instruments, all the weaknesses of this become apparent. External sequencer such as the Modular 16 help a lot but TE haven't thought this combination through so that you need a separate power supply for that sequencer! Would be an easy fix with a longer cable from the internal wiring of the PO-400 but they haven't provided any, at least there's plenty of modular jacks and they are of good quality. It looks cool, so it serves as more of an art-piece than something I use for making music. For 95% of people it will be a waste of their money.

Fun and playful synth

It is a playful and fun synth to get into modular stuff, it was also quite fun to build it and have all that process until it starts sounding... the only downside it's the knobs are a bit uncomfy.

Klingt klasse, aber nicht unbedingt allein

Zunächst wäre es verfüherisch, den POM 400 als Einstieg in die Welt der modularen Synthese zu sehen. Das kann klappen, besonders, weil der Synthi richtig gut klingt und sehr zum Spielen einlädt. Jedoch macht er dem Bediener das Leben nicht ganz leicht. Die Drehregler sind im Prinzip Lego-Technik-Pins und gehen teilweise recht schwer. Da schafft der Griff in des Nachwuchses (oder die eigene?!) Lego-Kiste schnell Abhilfe. Problematischer für Anfänger ist aber, dass die eingestellten Parameter nicht leicht ablesbar sind. Die besagten Drehregler haben kaum erkennbare Indizes und es gibt nur zwei LEDs, von denen eine lediglich dazu dient, die Betriebsbereitschaft anzuzeigen. Die andere blinkt, je nachdem, wie lang die Sequenz des rustikalen Sequencers ist, aber meineserachtens nicht unbedingt im Takt. Anders ist das etwa bei einer Mother 32. Hier gibt es viele, sinnvolle und bunte Lampen, nebst gut indizierten Potentiometern und eine kleine Klaviatur. Das zu einem ähnlichen Preis wie dem des POM 400.

Aber: Das Instrument kann mit Batterien betrieben (und überall hin mitgenommen) werden, kann richtig gut und agressiv klingen, manche machen gar Ambient damit. Zudem ist die Fülle der Module zu diesem Preis einzigartig. In jedem Fall ist der POM 400 eine gute Ergänzung für jedes Modularsystem.

Mon premier modulaire

Les plus :
- le son, c'est vraiment un plaisir de jouer avec
- facilité de construction, le packaging est top.
- une bonne option pour découvrir le modulaire

Les Moins :
- alimentation secteur conseillé, sur pile ça fluctue et les VCO ne sont pas stables (detune aléatoire...)
- premier exemplaire reçu avec divers problèmes, mais Thomann a été impeccable et il a été échanger par un neuf.
Le deuxième avait le filtre défectueux, j'ai reçu un module neuf par TE. La led témoin d'allumage bug et ne fonctionne pas de temps en temps, ça revient en tapotant...
- plus petit que je l'avais imaginé

A assembler soi même, compter une à deux heures, mais il n'y a aucune difficulté.

Conclusion :
Les problèmes du début ont un peu fait retomber la joie.
Heureusement que les SAV sont efficaces.
Mis à part ça, c'est vraiment un plaisir de l'allumer et d'explorer!
