People say, once you go gut, you never go back to steel. It's truth for me.
Pros - They are actually louder and project more than the heavy gauge steel strings I've used before. They are also capable of playing much softer than steel strings.
The colour range is huge.
They are very light under the left hand, thumb position doesn't hurt.
You don't have to change tailpiece, the knots fit right in finetuners, to be sure it doesn't cut in the knot I added small pieces of leather underneath it.
Cons - tuning - for first 3 days you only tune
They are very thick. A is thicker than steel G, D is thicker than C.
They feel very sticky to the fingers, probably fault of winding. It's hard to slide on them.

Der Klang ist schöner geworden

Als Dilettant am Cello habe ich mir die Oliv-Saiten geleistet. Vorher hatte ich Pirastro Synoxa am Cello. Zuerst war ich erschrocken über das schwierigere Ansprechen der Saiten, meine Lehrerin ermutigte mich aber die Saiten noch länger am Cello zu lassen; sie meinte, dass sich das Ansprechverhalten erstens verbessern würde und ich selbst zweitens meine Technik durch die Darmsaiten selbst auch verfeinern würde. Zudem kam - und dies von Anfang an - der schönere, vollere weichere Klang über den ich sehr froh bin. Synoxa haben einen klaren strahlenden Klang. Oliv rühren an die Seele. Alles zu seiner Zeit.

Jouer avec les tripes!

Les cordes Pirastro Oliv proposent une très belle palette harmonique, typique du boyau, le son est bien plus chaleureux qu'avec des cordes en acier. Les harmoniques se jouent sans effort.
Les Pirastro Oliv sont, de plus, particulièrement agréables sous les doigts, ce qui ne gâche rien!

Le seul inconvénient est qu'une fois installée, il leur faut un bon moment avant de s'habituer à la tension, et nécessitent d'être réaccordées de nombreuses fois avant de se stabiliser; éviter de remplacer une corde juste avant un concert, donc!
