Since I live in an apartment, I didn't have a practice amp for years. However, I decided that it was time to buy one, because I got tired of practicing with my headphones on. I was looking for a simple and affordable amp. After all, how much money would you spend on something that you'll be using exclusively at home?
I play mostly a 5-string bass and I'm in a band where I use the lowest string a lot, because there are downtuned guitars. I'm happy to say that this amp produces a very clear sound when playing on the B string. It also sounds louder than expected, which isn't a bad thing. The EQ seems to be pretty good, and the whole thing looks and feels well-built.
Back in the day I had an Orange Crush 25 bass amp and I have to say that the Hartke sounds so much better. And it's almost half the price of the Orange! I would recommend the HD25 to anyone looking for a solid practice amp.
