Compact recording hardware

The Zoom LiveTrak L-6 brings together a portable multitrack recorder, digital mixer and audio interface in one compact unit. Offering up to ten tracks, it allows as many as six analogue sources to be recorded through XLR and jack inputs, while also providing onboard effects processing for greater flexibility during recording sessions. Each channel includes a 3-band EQ, two AUX sends, pan control, and volume adjustment, alongside built-in delay, reverb, and compression for additional sound shaping. Musicians can also use the L-6 to transmit and receive MIDI data, while USB connectivity enables audio playback through four assignable sound pads, creating a versatile and space-saving solution for recording, mixing, and performance setups.

Versatile connectivity

On the far left, two XLR combo sockets allow the connection of both XLR and jack cables, while the 48V switch enables phantom power for condenser microphones when required. LEDs on each channel provide a clear indication of incoming signal activity, and inputs 3 to 6 operate as stereo channels equipped with dual jack sockets, with the Mono function allowing them to handle two separate mono signals when needed. Every channel includes a rotary control whose role can be selected through the channel strip buttons, creating a flexible and straightforward workflow during recording or mixing sessions. Via the USB-C connection, the Zoom LiveTrak L-6 also functions as an audio interface, while the USB 1/2 option on channels 5 and 6 routes audio directly from connected hardware into the mixer, and a dedicated section before the master channel allows quick adjustment of the internal effects.

Uncomplicated, no compromise

The Zoom LiveTrak L-6 is aimed at musicians looking for a simple way to capture live rehearsals or smaller band sessions without a complicated setup. Alongside computer connectivity through USB-C, the unit can also be linked directly to a smartphone for more flexible recording options, while optional SDXC card support of up to 1TB provides enough space for extended recording sessions across several days without needing to swap storage media. Thanks to its internal 32-bit float processing, volume levels can still be adjusted after recording, helping preserve detail and clarity even in demanding situations. This approach also allows for high-resolution recordings with far less risk of unwanted distortion caused by clipping.

About Zoom

Founded in 1983, the Japanese company Zoom manufactures a variety of audio equipment, including a range of portable "handy" recorders as well as multi-effects processors, effects pedals, drum machines, and samplers. Over the past thirty years, the company has built a reputation for producing innovative yet affordable products based on original microchip designs. Since the Zoom-9002 (an ultra-compact multi-effects processor that can be attached to a guitar strap) was introduced in 1990, Zoom has become one of the leaders in digital audio processing.

Versatile tool for live streams

As a USB audio interface, the Zoom LiveTrak L-6 provides a flexible solution for musicians planning to livestream performances or recording sessions. Microphones, guitars and external effects pedals can be connected through the AUX sends, allowing audio signals to be routed directly into streaming software on a Mac, PC or iOS device, while MIDI connections make it easy to integrate drum machines and synthesizers into the overall setup. Three scene memories also make it possible to store preferred configurations and recall them instantly whenever needed, helping streamline different recording or performance situations. The flexible power options further support mobile use, with operation possible through four AA batteries for up to three hours or via an optional USB battery pack for extended sessions away from a fixed power source.

Great modern portable mixer
Peter NH 05.12.2024
I have rated 5 star in context of its being a small, light mixer with all the major functions I need for live use as an all-in-one tool. Top features for me are usb-c, standalone use of all functions and relatively good visual display of what’s going on. Of course, not perfect for my uses - for example , would have preferred more mic level inputs (and fewer line level). Have not tried the card recording function yet but looks very good. Also as an interface, certainly works with an iPad.

Awesome Mixer That Just Works
lörandae 12.05.2025
Great mixer and audio interface, super easy to use with no learning curve. Records in high quality and handles all kinds of gear like Eurorack and the Roland T-8. Onboard recording is a huge plus for quickly capturing ideas without needing a computer. Just plug in and go!

K
There is something odd with its sound, but it's feature packed for the price.
Kalin 25.06.2025
It's odd that the USB return sounds quite good, with a bit narrower stereo field, but the stereo input (4) that I use for my synth sounds very thin and lite on bass, with pretty narrow stereo field.
I bought it mainly for use as a field recording device and I am yet to test it as such, so I might revisit this review after a while.
Undeniably, it packs a lot of features for the price, but I have to figure out the sound issue first.
