The Klark Teknik DI 22P is a DI box that, thanks to its first-rate components, makes absolutely no compromises when it comes to processing audio signals: It can get across both external audio input like smartphones or record players, or any instrument's unique character to a mixing desk, where the sound can be further shaped and enhanced. Because the DI 22P is constructed entirely from passive components, it doesn't require an external power source; particularly noteworthy is its special transformer, made by the manufacturer Midas, which is responsible for the high-quality signal processing. The DI 22P is sure to impress professional users working both in the studio and at live events with its robust build quality and reliable functionality.
The front of the Klark Teknik DI 22P is equipped with a pair of 6.3mm sockets for an unbalanced, high-impedance stereo signal, as well as both a 3.5mm mini-jack and a pair of cinch sockets. When a signal is present at the input, it can be output from the two XLR sockets on the rear of the unit. To the right of the inputs, there is a pad switch that attenuates the signal passing through to the XLR sockets on the rear by 15dB, and to the right of this is an earth/lift switch to separate the input and output grounds from one another, thus suppressing unwanted hum; there is another earth/lift switch between the XLR sockets on the rear of the device.
The Klark Teknik DI 22P can connect stereo keyboards, samplers, or synths – as well as other electronic instruments and external audio sources like smartphones or record players – to a mixing desk, making it a trusty companion for event techs and studio engineers who want to able to record their musicians with negligible loss of signal level. The 6.3mm jacks can also be used as parallel thru outputs. All the electronics housed in the DI 20P are well-protected thanks to the sturdy aluminium casing and the hard rubber corner protectors, which also give the device a very robust look. This is a professional DI box that's ready for the road.
Founded in 1974 by brothers Terence and Phillip Clarke, Klark Teknik designs and manufactures professional audio equipment used primarily in the events industry. Based in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, UK, the company has developed a number of innovative products in the audio field (including the DN60 Real Time Analyzer and the DN300 Graphic Equalizer) and it won one of the Queen's Awards for Enterprise in 1986. Today, the firm (along with Midas) is owned by the Music Group, to which Behringer also belongs.
It's the exceptional electronics inside this little device that allow the Klark Teknik DI 22P to process signals so immaculately. The first incredible spec is its THD value: 0.01% at 1kHz. The frequency response goes from 20Hz to 30kHz, with a 1dB tolerance. All the inputs and outputs are designed to ensure the highest levels of signal integrity – for instance, the premium XLR jacks from renowned manufacturer Neutrik. The DI 22P's input impedance is 30 kiloohms, with 600 ohms on the outputs. The signal-to-noise ratio is 105dBu, meaning the device's inherent noise is extremely low. And finally, the DI 22P's weight of just 530 grams means it is also incredibly portable.
