Rodenberg SL-OD Overdrive

For many years I've used a Zvex Box of Rock for low/med gain and boost with a Mooer UK gold in front for my hi gain/lead tones. My current set up is all DI and this set up wasn't working so well. I tried the Carl Martin Lick box which was as bad and difficult to dial in usable tones as other Carl Martin's I've tried so I got the Rodenberg instead. This basically puts my 2 pedals into one and the sounds are just what I wanted. The low gain goes all the way from clean to a decent mid gain crunch, a nod towards a Tubecreamer but with less of a mid hump which I really don't like about TS's.
The high gain picks up where the low gain leaves off and is a decent usable hi-gain for both rythmn and lead tone and again not to 'mid' heavy.
Individually both channels sound great and stacking both channels is also good and usable without sounding over the top.
The boost does what you need and the additional tone control is very welcome.
It's easy to dial in good usable tones with any guitar, Strat, Tele, SG, P90 and Gretsch 6120 all play nicely with this pedal.
I never thought I'd sell my Zvex - but the Rodenberg SL-OD is a keeper for sure.

Both channels are unbelievabley good, and the boost function works like a dream.

Can be used stacked or as individual pedals.

If I had to use one pedal for the rest of my life, this is the one.

It easily beats the competition. It might seem expensive but look at what you get.

Eigentlich habe ich ja schon viel zu viele dieser bunten Klangzerstörer, aber es kommen doch immer wieder neue und interessante Pedale um die Ecke, die man auch aufgrund der mehr oder weniger gelungenen Produktvideos und Testberichte dann auch mit seinem persönlichen Equipment ausprobieren möchte.
Und ich mache es kurz: Das Pedal bleibt und wird zum Star in meiner Tretersammlung.

Die Bedienung ist selbsterklärend und die gebotenen Einstell- und Regelmöglichkeiten sind zwar nicht gerade überwältigend, aber ausreichend und praxisorientiert.

Was noch schön gewesen wäre, wenn der Booster sich nicht nur nach der Overdrive-Gainstufe dazuschalten hätte lassen, sondern auch wahlweise bereits davor.
Das ist aber auch reizvoll, denn so kann ich bspw. meinen Blackstar HT-20R MKII zu einem 4 Kanaler ausbauen. Im Clean Channel stehen Low Gain und High Gain Overdrive des Pedals zur Verfügung und im Overdrive Channel des Amps kann ich noch zusätzlich den Booster dazuschalten, was eine dichtere Verzerrung und bei entsprechender Einstellung des Tone Reglers einen knackigeren Leadtone ermöglicht.

A propos Amp. Ich habe selten ein Overdrive Pedal besessen, welches so gutmütig mit fast allen meiner Amps harmoniert. Das kennt bestimmt jeder. Das Pedal deiner Wünsche klingt im Youtube Video über einen bestimmten Amp grandios, am heimischen Amp dann aber eher bescheiden. Das Rodenberg SL-OD fühlt sich dagegen vor fast jedem Amp wohl.

Man sollte dieses Pedal auch mal mit einem 18 Volt Netzteil betreiben, denn das ändert den Grundsound und die Ansprache nochmals hörbar in Richtung strafferer und knackigerer Ton.

Der Grundsound geht in Richtung Tube Screamer, d. h. die Verzerrung ist cremig, rund niemals kratzig scharf, jedoch dabei ohne die "Schwächen" des Tube Screamers zu übernehmen. Denn das SL-OD klingt insgesamt sehr ausgeglichen ohne den sonst üblichen "Mitten Nöck" (der aber durchaus gewünscht sein kann).

Der Preis des Rodenberg SL-OD ist nicht gerade billig, dafür bietet das Pedal einen tollen Sound, eine grandiose und stabile Verarbeitung Made in Germany und sieht auch lecker aus. Von daher ist der aufgerufene Preis m. E. absolut fair.
